POLICY CHANGE
Today's reading: Jeremiah 22-26
"When the officials of Judah heard what was happening, they rushed over from the palace and sat down at the New Gate of the Temple to hold court." Jeremiah 26:10 NLT
Let's set the record straight...
What had just happened that caused the leaders of Judah to hold court? The prophet Jeremiah had just pronounced judgement upon them in the name of the Lord.
In verses 4-6 of this same chapter, God told the people what the problem was, how long He had been enduring it and how it was time for consequences.
The people had turned their backs upon God, because the leaders of those people would not listen to Him.
So the officials, the same men charged with not listening to God? They chose to meet at the city gate and discuss 'policy changes'.
They mulled over what was said.
They interpreted the message.
They brought all the facts to the table.
And...instead of making heart changes, they voted to kill the messenger.
Oh, friends, are we like that?
We pray for our country. We send out letters to our officials regarding how they should vote in upcoming meetings of government. We condemn past laws. We either question policy changes or want policy changes.
But do we change our hearts?
