WHEN HE HAS HAD ENOUGH
Today's reading: Joel 1-4
In reading this morning, I've come across a passage that has been repeated eight different times in two short chapters...
'...The people of ______ have sinned again and again, and I will not forget it. I will not let them go unpunished any longer!'
Amos tells us in his vision that God speaks this statement over the countries of Damascus, Gaza, Tyre, Edom, Ammon, Moab, Judah and Israel. In each of the eight verses, God fills in the names of each of these.
He had had enough.
Enough of their sin.
Enough of their insincere repentance.
Enough of their taking for granted all He blessed them with.
Enough of their thinking they could do what they wished, going against His orders, and not face the consequences.
I shudder to think--what about when He has had enough and puts our names in the blank?
