OBEYING GOD
Today's reading: Deuteronomy 4-6
"But I lavish my love on those who love me and obey my commands, even for a thousand generations." Deuteronomy 5:10 NLT
I can't help but stop on the word 'lavish' this morning. I'll admit, it's not a word that I use often but it intrigues me. It sends my mind and thoughts whirling in a thousand different directions.
One can be lavished with attention. As on special days--one's birthday, for example.
One can be lavished with praise. Perhaps you did this yesterday to someone in your church who sang a solo and blessed even heaven with their ministrations.
One could be lavished with gifts. Maybe your husband does that on your anniversary. Jewelry, flowers, candy, cards, dinner out, laundry washed, dried and folded, etc.
But to be lavished with love?
No one we know, even the most loving people we could name, are incapable of doing it the way God does.
Love piled high. Love filling the deepest oceans. Love scaling the reaching the highest summit. Love going to the moon and back. Love pouring out and spilling over. Love greater than our sins. Love going beyond our time on earth. Love offering what means the most to Him.
All for loving Him and obeying His commands.
