Today's reading: Amos 5-9
"The time is surely coming, says the Sovereign Lord, when I will send a famine on the land--not a famine of bread or water but of hearing the words of the Lord." Amos 8:11 NLT
Since 1522 when Martin Luther took a bold stand and popularized the Bible among the common folks, the Word of the Lord has become a best selling book worldwide.
Over 100 million copies are sold annually.
It has been translated into 3000 languages.
Google gives a conservative estimate of 219,000 Bibles sold daily in the USA alone. And records from 2024 indicate that Bible sales increased in 2024 by 28% with most of those being 'new' buyers.
Wonderful statistics!
Amazing outreach!
What great news!
One-third of the world claims to be Christian. This number includes Catholic, Protestant and Eastern Orthodox.
And yet, the percentage of Bible believing, born again, Jesus Christ saved individuals is recorded at a mere 13% of the world's population.
Bibles are everywhere--and yet only 13% of the world's hearts, minds, lives and eternities are being touched by them?
That sounds like a famine of hearing God's Word to me.
