CLING
Today's reading: Deuteronomy 13-15
"Serve only the Lord your God and fear him alone. Obey his commands, listen to his voice and cling to him." Deuteronomy 13:4 NLT
According to Merriam-Webster, the verb 'cling' means...
a. to hold onto something or someone very tightly
b. to stay very close to someone for emotional support, protection, etc.
c. to stick someone or something
Do those definitions describe your relationship with God?
Do you cling to Him?
Can He not go a step without you right beside Him?
Are you constantly in His shadow?
Are you dependent upon Him for everything, including your next breath?
Are you hard to shake?
Or is it a 'Sunday-only' kind of friendship? An 'only-when-I-need-you' kind of relationship? A '9-1-1' style commitment?
We are instructed to serve, obey, listen to and cling. Daily. Hourly. On a moment by moment basis.
I'm preferring to stick to Him like a cockle-burr. Or maybe a stick-tite. Or maybe sweater fuzz. Or a piece of chewed chewing gum. Or maybe--well, you get the picture!
