RAISE UP AN ANTHEM
Today's reading: Habakkuk
"This prayer was sung by the prophet Habakkuk: I have heard all about you, Lord, and am filled with awe by the amazing things you have done. In this time of our deep need, begin again to help us, as you did in years gone by. Show us your power to save us. And in your anger, remember your mercy." Habakkuk 3:1-2 NLT
If I were a poll-taker, a statistic-collector, a procurer of specifics, I believe I could amass enough information to make this statement: Our country is weary. Worn out. Tired. Beaten. Disgusted. Saddened. Feeling on the verge of hopeless.
So it's time we raise up an anthem.
One like Habakkuk sang.
And whether it is set to the tune of 'Amazing Grace' or 'The Star Spangled Banner' or even 'Dixie', we need it. No matter the beat. No matter if it is accompanied by an orchestra, a guitar or it's sung a capella, we need it badly.
We need help for our nation.
We need the direction for our leaders.
We need to see the power of God's mighty hand again--and again.
We need the mercy it talks about--oh, do we need mercy!
We need to rise up in praise for God, our only hope!
