 GOD FOR A DAY

Today's reading: Job 39-40

"Then the Lord answered Job from the whirlwind: Brace yourself, because I have some questions for you, and you must answer them. Are you going to discredit my justice and condemn me so you can say you are right? Are you as strong  as God, and can you thunder with a voice like his? All right then, put on your robes of state, your majesty and splendor." Job 40:6-10 NLT

Might I paraphrase these verses? Put them in my own words? Tell you how I believe they played out, in 2021 phrases?

Here it goes, and I will even set up the scene leading up to God's conversation...

God has watched as Job was 'comforted' by his friends beside the mournful ash pile in Job's backyard for long enough.

He had heard their attempts at philosophy.

He had listened to their spins on solace and sympathy.

He had grimaced as they had taken His promises and twisted them into pointy forks to prod an already hurting friend in sore places.

He stood watch over His chosen one as he remained steadfast and unwavering in his faith. He listened as Job spoke words of hope in his Redeemer. He beamed as He was reminded He had chosen the right man for the test Satan had challenged him to, but now, well now, He could see he was beginning to crack. He could see the doubts were starting to pile up in Job's mind.

So we see beginning in chapter 38 God steps in and speaks directly to Job about the situation at hand.

God decides to ask Job a few questions. Just to insure Job remembers who is who in the grand order of things. A reminder. A reset. A revival, or sorts.

Then in today's verse, He asks Job the ultimate question I believe God ever asks...of Job or of any one of us...

Do you want to put on your rented 'super God suit' and try it all for yourself?

Wow, friends! If that won't jerk you immediately back into reality, what will? Do we really think we could do it any better if we tried?
