THEY WERE DESPERATE
Today's reading: Luke 23-24
"Then they became desperate..." Luke 23:5 NLT
Who became desperate? The council that brought Jesus before Pilate.
I can see them wringing their hands. I can see their bribes bulging in their pockets. I can imagine thoughts of their political downfalls filling their heads.
They were at the point they had no hope...and yet that Hope was staring them in the eye.
They were moved to despair...and yet they condemned their only Way out.
They were suffering extreme need and anxiety...and still they placed on the cross the One who could rid them of all anxious thoughts in exchange for rest and peace.
The desperate people are still out there.
They're still pushing Jesus aside, blaming Him for their messes and placing Him in a safe, out of the way place--far from their hearts.
They, or at least a few of them, will be sitting beside you in church tomorrow.
They might be at the same dinner table you sit at for Sunday's lunch.
They could possibly be in your own home.
They, be honest here, could be you, now couldn't they?
