STONES
Today's reading:  1 Kings 5-9

"The stones used in the construction of the Temple were prefinished at the quarry, so the entire structure was built without the sound of hammer, ax, or any other iron tool at the building site."  1 Kings 6:7 NLT

Solomon's Temple was a magnificent structure.  Carefully made plans were carried out as given to David by God.

Including the rocks.

Rocks hammered and chipped off site, pieces of earth removed from their comfortable, natural places.

Stones whose edges were rounded off and smoothed far from the pews.

Hunks of granite, or the stone of the day, polished and perfected by interaction with the world outside the church.

Fundamental pieces prepared before they were ever put in place for Sunday's use.
