IF IT HAD NOT BEEN
Today's reading:  Psalm 122-124

"The waters would have engulfed us; a torrent would have overwhelmed us.  Yes the raging waters of their fury would have overwhelmed our very lives."  Psalm 124:4-5 NLT

Did you get it?  Would have...would have...would have.

Oh, yes, you need to know what precedes this section of Scripture.

Simply this,

"If the Lord had not been on our side--"  Psalm 124:1 NLT

We seldom read the Bible, or any other books, backwardly.  We don't start in the final chapter and work our way through to the preface pages. We almost never want to know what happens in the end, then unravel the plot from that point.

But as Christians, we sometimes have to, need to really, see what we've come through in order to fully appreciate all God's done for us.  We need the view from the rear view mirror to make us value His presence, His grace and His protection.  We need what hindsight offers.

We need to look back sometimes to realize all that 'would have' happened to us, if it had not been for the Lord on our side!
