BACKPACK PRAYER
Today’s reading: Psalm 37

Pencils have been purchased and sharpened, No. 2, of course. Large pink erasers have been taken out of their blister packs and placed in the bright green pencil box. Wide-ruled notebook paper has been loaded into the back pack, along with 2-pocket folders, crayons, boxes of Kleenex and Germ-X. New tennis shoes are sitting under the edge of my soon-to-be-a-4th-grader’s bed. Cool school clothes have been picked up at various stores touting good sales. I think we’re ready for school to begin. Well, we will be as soon as I put his verse for the year into one of his backpack’s seventeen zippered pockets.

“Trust in the Lord and do good. Then you will safely in the land and prosper. Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you your heart’s desires. Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust him and he will help you.” Psalm 37:3-5 NLT

I’ll pray those verses over Isaiah several times throughout the week this school year. I’ll ask God to remind him of the significance of the words, the power behind the promise and the strength he can gain from living them on a daily basis. A great reminder of God’s presence and love for him--even when he’s sitting in his desk at school.
