WHILE WE WERE
Today's reading: Romans 5-6

"But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners." Romans 5:8 NLT

Maybe you had to memorize this verse in Awana.

Or in learning the Romans Road to salvation.

Or maybe for extra points in Sunday School or church camp.

Maybe you've only recently come across this verse and its meaning, and its thoughts, are completely foreign to you.

Well, it baffles us all. Or, it should.

While we were, gets me every time.

God didn't wait to send Christ to the cross or into my life once I had it all cleaned up and looking tidy.

He doesn't wait for us to have a desire to attend church and get into His Word.

He won't make us straighten up and fly right before considering us to be His.

While we were in the depths of despair and needing a Savior, Christ died for us.
