TURNING
Today's reading: Proverbs 1
"My child, if sinners entice you, turn your back on them!" Proverbs 1:10 NLT
I'm afraid our culture has led us to believe it is our duty, as 'those who are to be loving and Christ-like', to be sensitive, tolerant and excusing of sin so as not to damage the feelings of the sinner.
Might I ask this question...
And I ask it in all sincerity...
With the greatest humility...
In all love...
How's it working out for us?
I think our tolerance has allowed us to walk alongside sin for so long now that we are hand in hand with it, participating in it and allowing it to permeate our own lives to the extent to which 'its stench no longer reaches our nostrils'.
Sad.
It's time we turn our back on sin.
Time we just said, No.
It's time we turn off the offensive television programs.
Put down the books or magazines that are questionable.
Step out of conversations that are not God-honoring or that we wouldn't want to have our pastors find us in the middle of.
Excuse ourselves from the relationships that leave any doubt as to our participation.
Relieve ourselves of any extracurricular activities that leave us no time for worship, no time for God, no time for Sabbath rest.
We have been enticed too long--it's time we let go of the hand that has been dragging us away from the Lord.
