WHY IS HE OUR LAST RESORT?
Today's reading: Isaiah 18-22
"...But you never ask for help from the One who did all this..." Isaiah 22:11 NLT
Isaiah writes,
Destruction is on the doorstep of Jerusalem. Leaders have stepped down from their pedestals. Enemy archers surround the city. Frantic scared people cry out in fear.
The people of Jerusalem gather all their weapons. They batten down the hatches, sealing up every entrance. They hoard provisions and ready themselves for a long battle. They build up walls.
But they never do what they're supposed to do.
Turn to God. Turn back to God actually.
They had once been His, then things got in the way. Distractions came along. Temptations lured them away from their Lord. Their views were routed elsewhere. Their walks detoured. Their hearts attempted to allow too many things in its small space.
They were getting what they had brought on themselves.
Their only, I mean only, hope was God.
And they refused to turn to Him.
Why do we do that? Oh--I mean why did they do that?
