HAVING HIS ROBE
Today's reading: John 19-21

"When the soldiers had crucified Jesus, they divided his clothes among the four of them. They also took his robe, but it was seamless, woven in one piece from top to bottom. So they said, Let's not tear it but throw dice to see who gets it. This fulfilled the Scripture that says, They divided my clothes among themselves and threw dice for my robe. So that is what they did." John 19:23-25 NLT

I don't know who won the dice throwing contest. I don't know the soldier's name. I don't know his rank. I don't know his thoughts towards this condemned man.

I don't know what he did with the robe. Where he stored it. If he wore it or not when he was out of uniform. I don't know if it was a showpiece he kept on display.

There is a lot I don't know about this passage of Scripture.

But I do know this...Jesus knew the young man who would take a piece of Him home with him.

He knew his heart. He knew how the day's events, the prophecies fulfilled and the resurrection to come would touch this soldier's life.

He knew owning, touching, being near this robe could have the same powerful effect on him that it had on the woman with the issue of blood who touched only a small corner of its hem.

You see, one cannot come in contact with Jesus and leave unchanged.

You have a piece of Him with you today--what will you do?
