DESPISE
Today's reading: 2 Samuel 10-12
"Then David confessed to Nathan, I have sinned against the Lord. Nathan replied, Yes, but the Lord has forgiven you, and you won't die for this sin. But you have given the enemies of the Lord great opportunity to despise and blaspheme him, so your child will die." 2 Samuel 12:13-14 NLT
Despise-to look down on with contempt or aversion; to regard as negligible, worthless or distasteful.
Oh, my heart breaks for David in this portion of Scripture.
So many emotions.
So many lives touched by his one, seemingly, private moment of poor judgement.
God.
David.
Nathan.
The enemies of the Lord.
The child.
Bathsheba.
The servants of David.
Us.
Yes, we're touched by it--all these hundreds of years later.
Sin impacts.
But, so does forgiveness!
