IN THEIR POCKETS
Today's reading: Jeremiah 37-41
"Sure enough, it wasn't long before the king's officials came to Jeremiah and asked him why the king had called for him. But Jeremiah followed the king's instructions, and they left without finding out the truth..." Jeremiah 38:27 NLT
I don't know if anyone has ever told you this before, but as a Christian, you will be used by some people.
It's not a new thing. We see it in the account of Jeremiah being held in captivity by the Babylonians. They didn't want him, or need him or know of anything he could really do for them--but his God, on the other hand.
You, like Jeremiah, will be carried around in their pockets and brought out as a talisman, of sorts, when times get bad or situations require prayer or they run out of their own resources.
You will be used as lamps to rub in order that a genie might appear.
Oh, seldom will they want to hear about your God...
Or know about the hope you hold within your heart...
Or want the salvation your Savior can offer...
Or desire another invitation to tag along to church...
But they want to carry you in their pocket, just in case.
They might want the prayers you can whisper on their behalf.
Or need your direct line to Him in their 9-1-1 emergencies.
Or want to hear your calming and peaceful words when the bottom falls completely out of their worlds.
But they might not want your God. Maybe ever. But then again, maybe they will.
They'll just be content to carry you around in their pockets. But, at least, you'll be there.
