HARD PRAYER TO PRAY
Today's reading: 2 Samuel 10-14
"...May the Lord's will be done." 2 Samuel 10:12 NLT
I think those words may be the hardest words to pray.
To pray sincerely, that is.
To pray them, and mean them, with all your heart--all your heart.
Because, as in this instance with Joab, their were certain preferences Joab could have suggested in a prayer to the Lord.
In speaking to his brother on the front line of a battle, Joab knew God was their only hope.
In sizing up their enemy, Joab knew God was their secret weapon.
In reviewing their battle plan, Joab knew God was their Commander in Chief.
In calming his own nerves on the eve of battle, Joab knew God was his peace.
In thinking over exactly why they were in this fight to start with, Joab knew how he wanted this story to end--and still he wanted God's will more than his own.
That's a powerful amount of self-control, friends.
Being able to pray for God's will above, beyond and more than one's own--and mean it?
Because we all have our preferences, our druthers, our plans, our suggestions, our pride we would like honored.
But when we can truly, and wholeheartedly ask that His will be done, then He and we will receive the blessing of seeing His hand at work.
