MY INSIDES
Today's reading: Matthew 23-25
"You try to look like upright people outwardly, but inside your hearts are filled with hypocrisy and lawlessness." Matthew 23:28 NLT
We are just about ten days into the forty days of Lent.
Lent is not one of the religious practices I usually recognize. It's not how I was raised. It wasn't used in the church I've grown up in, but I've been reading about it and studying what it is for my own purposes. I've been challenged by a few devotional writers using this season as a theme for their most recent writings.
What I used to think it was is not what it is intended to be. The focus I thought it brought is not the focus meant by its practices leading up to Easter Sunday.
I thought it was about people. What they would/could give up in order to bless God in some way. I was wrong.
It's about God. It's about making the time to notice what He has done for us. It's about holy He is and how holy we are not. It's about the sacrifice made for me.
It's about today's verse. It's about the inside of me. The heart of the matter. The deep down part of me that God sent His Son to save. It's about seeing myself as He sees me. It's about not taking for granted the enormity of His sacrifice and mercy.
It's about my insides.
