Today's reading: 2 Chronicles 6-10
"Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and heal their land." 2 Chronicles 7:14 NLT
We have heard the verse.
We have prayed the verse over our land.
We have truly intended to receive what He promises us in this verse.
But have we stopped long enough, studied hard enough, looked beyond the promise to His purpose?
It's found in the verse right before this one...
"At times I might shut up the heavens so that no rain falls, or I might command locusts to devour your crops, or I might send plagues among you." 2 Chronicles 7:13 NLT
There is a reason for verse 14 and that reason is we have sinned. Wandered. Taken to a path other than the one He has laid out for us to travel. Diverted our attention from off of Him. Turned to the help of idols. Allowed our doubts to override our faith.
And in discipline He desires to draw us back.
He wants us to see where we have strayed and why it is not the best for ones called by His name.
He wants us to remember who He is.
To call out to Him.
To turn our backs on anything but Him.
And if it takes dry seasons, devouring locusts and plagues to do that, He is willing--because He loves us so much!
