I GET IT
Today's reading: Genesis 32-35
"...There is no reason for you to be so kind to me, Jacob insisted." Genesis 33:15 NLT
I think I understand how Jacob felt as he reunited with Esau.
No, I don't 'get' the customs of the day, their intricacies and specifics.
No, I cannot fathom the depths of the family tensions.
No, I have not made such poor choices as to have felt the need to leave town and now return.
No, I cannot grasp a religious system that left little room for a personal relationship with a loving God.
What I do understand is what Jacob said about Esau's kindness--because I cannot understand how God can do for me what He's done and continues to do!
The sun to shine on my day?
The heart to beat in my chest?
The love that surrounds me?
The peace that calms me?
The joy that saturates my soul?
The blood that covers the multitude of my sins?
The relationship that enables me to stand before the throne of a Holy God
Oh God, there is no reason, no earthly or heavenly reason, for You to be so kind to me!
