REVERENT FEAR
Today's reading: Job 25-26
"God is powerful and dreadful. He enforces peace in the heavens." Job 25:2 NLT
'God is the one to fear, because God is in control and rules the heavens.' Job 25:2 Contemporary English Version
'Authority and awe are with him. He made peace in his high places.' Job 25:2 Aramaic Bible in Complete English
'God is sovereign, God is fearsome—everything in the cosmos fits and works in his plan.' Job 25:2 The Message Bible
While it's true Job's friends were there for him, said many things to him, they did not always have the right things to say nor did they factually represent God in their choice of words.
Bildad, the Shuhite, got close.
Bildad had a reverent fear of God.
He knew God to be powerful and dreadful. Majestic and to be respected. Sovereign and justice invoking. Controlled by none yet in control of all.
God, he said, enforces peace in heaven. He restrains the universe from imploding. He orders what might be chaos in the heavenlies into a cycle of years, months, weeks, days, hours and seasons.
God is to be acknowledged for His might, but also for His care of us.
All He orders in the wonders of creation are to remind us of His rank and our dependence upon Him.
Have you stopped to consider how powerful and dreadful God truly is?
