NO IDOLS
Today's reading: Leviticus 19-21
"Do not put your trust in idols or make gods of metal for yourselves. I, the Lord, am your God." Leviticus 19:4 NLT
You know, God instructs us here not to make metal gods for ourselves, but I don't believe His intents were to only stop us from making them out of metal...
He could have also said, don't make idols out of paper. The kind of paper that money is printed on. The kind of paper that we base a whole lot of our happiness, security and faith in. That's a paper idol.
He could have said, don't make idols out of wood. The kind of structural lumber our nice comfortable homes are made of. The homes we use to rate ourselves against our neighbors. That would be a god made out of wood.
He could have said, don't make idols out of others. No matter how admirable. No matter how godly-looking. No matter if you carried them for nine months and nursed them through every childhood illness in the book. They would be an idol made out of flesh.
Our instruction is not to make a god or an idol. Not to place our hope and trust in anything, or anyone, other than God.
It won't end well if we choose to disobey this command of His.
