 AGAINST GOD

Today's reading: Genesis 36-39

"No one here has more authority than I do! He has held back nothing from me except you, because you are his wife. How could I ever do such a wicked thing? It would be a great sin against God." Genesis 39:9 NLT

We're in the palace with Joseph and Potiphar's wife this morning.

No one else is around.

Mrs. Potiphar sidles up beside Joseph and makes her move. She offers her wares. She presents Joseph with a proposition that she believes he cannot and would not resist.

But he does resist.

And it's not because of her.

It's not because of Potiphar, his boss.

It's not even for himself.

He resists because it would be a great sin against God.

If we were to remember that each and every sin we are tempted to commit is fully and intimately against God, and God alone, would it keep us from sinning?

Our enemy has errantly convinced us that there are sins that ONLY effect ourselves, sins that ONLY effect the two people involved, sins that ONLY effects a small group of people.

But sin, every sin, is against the Lord.

Shouldn't that make us stop and think?
