ONLY CAMPING OUT
Today's reading: Deuteronomy 4-6
"Today I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you. If you disobey me, you will quickly disappear from the land you are crossing the Jordan to occupy. You will live there only a short time..." Deuteronomy 4:26 NLT
One might think that after traveling through the wilderness for 40 years, the Israelites would be more than happy to obey God and find permanent residency in His presence and in His promised land.
More than happy to settle down.
More than happy to set up a home, rather than a tent.
But we know the storyline. How their hearts and minds wander to neighboring gods. How their thoughts strayed from what was holy to what was new and shiny. How their lives began a drastic decline in godliness.
How the Promised Land became merely a place for them to set up camp.
The same is true for us in regards to peace and joy.
We experience them when we stand firmly in God's will. We are showered in the blessings of being submissive to our Lord.
Then we step out from under His loving care.
We partake of a sin that pulls us out of His presence.
We choose, and it's always our choice, to 'go camping' in the wilderness of the world.
God designed us to succeed, prosper, relax and fully benefit from living inside His sphere of blessings. Our minds and bodies and souls find regeneration from the peace and joy only being in His will offers.
