A STARRY NIGHT
Today's reading: Genesis 14-16, Matthew 5:21-48, Psalm 6
"The Lord then brought Abram outside beneath the night sky and told him, Look up into the heavens and count the stars if you can. Your descendants will be like that--too many too count!" Genesis 15:5 NLT
Imagine standing under the vast black velvet sky that night.
The quiet only interrupted by Abram's heartbeat pounding wildly in his ears.
The crickets and night animals completely silenced, waiting to hear what God had to say.
The stars, this being their 'night', shining brilliantly for the point they would be used to make.
The slow counting Abram began--One, two, three...oh it's useless, there are too many.
The audacity of the promise God was making. The bigness of it. The enormity. The impossibility of it all.
And all for Abram's trust.
His trust.
His heartfelt belief that God would do what God said He would do.
Maybe you're standing under a night sky right now. Quite possibly God has presented you with an opportunity too big for your own making, too elaborate for your own plans. Maybe He has asked you to begin counting the blessings that will come your way when you obey Him, and you can't because your mind doesn't work in those ways. Maybe He's just asking you to trust Him. Just trust Him.
How exciting!
It's your 'starry night'.
