POOR EXCHANGE RATE
Today's reading: Jeremiah 1-6
"Has any nation ever exchanged its gods for another god, even though its gods are nothing? Yet my people have exchanged their glorious God for worthless idols!" Jeremiah 2:11 NLT
My fellow travelers and I spent a bit of our time in Israel ciphering the exchange rate between American dollars and Israeli shekels.
Most everything was priced in dollars and all the places we went to accepted American money, but we would come across an occasional gift shop that had everything marked in shekels. Our phones would come out and our calculator apps would glow brightly as we figured up the price based on the current rate of exchange.
Every one of us wanted the best bargain for our hard earned dollars, so we checked, and double-checked the figures.
If only I were so diligent in the warnings of today's verse.
I have been very guilty of exchanging my glorious God for meaningless, good for nothing idols.
I've made poor, very poor, exchanges in regards to my own way, my comfort, my strong will and my lack of self control.
But this morning, because of His grace, I've been given another chance to honor Him with my choices, with my worship and with my devotion.
You have, too.
