A FRESH, NEW THING
Today's reading:  Psalm 96-98

"Sing a new song to the Lord!  Let the whole earth sing to the Lord!"  Psalm 96:1 NLT

"Sing a new song to the Lord, for he has done wonderful deeds."  Psalm 98:1 NLT

Lord,

Is what I praise You for, what I say to You, what I ask of You--is it stale?  Is it repetitive?  Has it become the 'same-old, same-old' from my lips to Your ears?

Am I like the pre-schoolers who use their 'God is great, God is good...' prayer as a stand-in for any time prayer is needed?  Am I speaking praise to You by rote?  Has my time spent talking/listening (Yes, I'm still working on that, Lord!) become habitual and routine instead of vibrant and intoxicating like it should be?

The psalmist reminds me that each and every day, each and every prayer I should be singing a new song to you.  Something fresh, something I've just uncovered about You, Your grace, Your love for me, Your presence.  I should be singing some new reason to glorify Your name.

There's not a moment of any given day You have not provided for me--or walked me through.  For that, I owe you a new, a fresh, new song of praise!

There is a new song in my heart this morning, Lord!
