MERCY FOR ME
Today's reading: Amos 1-4
Five times in the first chapter of Amos, it is written about God's judgement on sinful cities. Allow me to quote the first time it appears...
"This is what the Lord says, The people of Damascus have sinned again and again, and I will not forget it. I will not let them go unpunished any longer!.." Amos 1:3 NLT
The same sentence is stated regarding the cities of Gaza, Tyre, Edom and Ammon. In each case, discipline was doled out: fire.
What stops me dead in my tracks this morning, is the simple fact that I am just as guilty of repeated sinning as any Bible town--and God has given me mercy.
God loved me (and you) enough to send Jesus to take the punishment for sins committed and omitted.
Who am I to receive an ounce, let alone a lifetime, full of His grace?
