CONSULTING THE LORD
Today's reading: Joshua 6-10
"So the Israelite leaders examined their bread, but they did not consult the Lord." Joshua 9:14 NLT
Ever read Joshua 9?
It's the account in the Bible where the people of Gibeon deceive the Israelites.
The Gibeonites were doomed for destruction by God's order as the children of Israel took possession of the Promised Land.
But the Gibeonites were tricky. They schemed and planned and manipulated and lied--and found themselves in a peace treaty with the very ones who were supposed to eradicate their entire population.
All because the Israelites inspected their bread, but didn't confer with God.
Might I say, it's kinda the same thing we do today.
We see what Facebook recommends.
We check out Pinterest for any and all suggestions.
We Google for advice.
We seek out friends who can help us in decision making.
But we won't check with God.
We don't spend time pouring over His Word in order to find the answer we need.
And when we go that route?
When we choose convenience over God?
When we choose what's socially acceptable over what God has called us to do?
Well, we find ourselves in a 'deal with the devil.'
