GOOD REASONS
Today's reading: Matthew 3-4
"Then Jesus went from Galilee to the Jordan River to be baptized by John. But John didn't want to baptize him, I am the one who needs to be baptized by you, he said, so why are you coming to me? But Jesus said, It must be done, because we must do everything that is right. So John baptized him." Matthew 3:13-15 NLT
As followers of Christ, we're provided opportunity after opportunity to serve Him with our hearts, hands and heads.
We walk into doors He has opened.
We are given spheres of influence orchestrated by Him.
We are led by His Spirit to go places, to be around people, to have access to things.
That being said, we also have a whole lot of reasons why we don't obey Him in these instances.
Good reasons.
Mighty good reasons.
Like John had.
I mean, if ever there was a 'good reason', John surely had it--he wasn't worthy to baptize Jesus.
That declaration showed wisdom, humility and honesty on John's part.
But Jesus countered his reason with truth--we must do everything that is right. Or God ordained.
Obedience trumps reason.
Service overrides sacrifice.
Godliness is greater than understanding.
Today when God asks me to do something for Him, I want to push aside all the reasons why I can't or why I shouldn't and just say 'yes'. Want to join me?
