OUR RESPONSE
Today's reading: Genesis 4-7
"...When they grew up, Abel became a shepherd, while Cain was a farmer. At harvesttime Cain brought to the Lord a gift of his farm produce, while Abel brought several choice lambs from the best of his flock. The Lord accepted Abel and his offering, but he did not accept Cain and his offering. This made Cain very angry and dejected. Why are you so angry, the Lord asked him. Why do you look so dejected? You will be accepted if you respond in the right way. But if you refuse to respond correctly, then watch out! Sin is waiting to attack and destroy you, and you must subdue it." Genesis 4:2-7 NLT
I'd never read it before.
In all the times I'd read about Cain and Abel's offerings, I'd never caught the words God spoke to them.
Words He speaks to us.
It's not about the offering.
It's not about the presentation.
It's not about the process of getting the lambs or the ears of corn to the church for the Lord's Day.
It's all about our attitude when He responds to us.
Is our attitude wrapped up in comparison to another's acceptance or ability or performance?
Is our attitude wrapped up in our being okayed by those watching?
Is our attitude wrapped up in believing God blesses and responds well to each and every thing we do right?
Because God does what God pleases. God does what is best for us. God does what will bring Him the most glory.
God wants our attitude in regards to His decisions to match that. Like He did Cain.
