BECAUSE HE SAID SO
Today's reading: 1 Chronicles 27-29
"When David took his census, he did not count those who were younger than twenty years of age, because the Lord had promised to make the Israelites as numerous as the stars in heaven." 1 Chronicles 27:23 NLT
Have you registered for the 2020 census? Signs are up reminding us to do it. Ads are on television. I've even gotten a prerecorded message on my cell phone stating the importance of filling out the census forms.
So it tickled me to see a census mentioned in today's reading.
David took a census. He shouldn't have, but he did.
He did it to count the fighting men in his kingdom.
But today's point is that he didn't count the young men, or boy children.
Why?
Why didn't he want to know what his army would look like in a few years?
Why didn't he want to be fully aware of how many future fighting men were being raised up?
Why didn't he want to know the security level his country would see in the years to come?
Because God said He would make the Israelites as numerous as the stars.
He believed God would do just what God said He would do.
There's a lesson in that for us!
God says He won't leave us--so there is no use wondering if He is there.
God says He will provide for us--so there is no use worrying how or when it will happen for us.
God says He will defeat our enemy each and every time--so there is no use of fretting over our own strengths and resources.
God says He will provide eternity for us with Him--so there is no need wasting our thoughts about tomorrow.
God says His people will always be His people--so there is no wondering if we can fall from His favor.
God says tomorrow is well cared for in His hands--so there is no use us fearing what it might hold for us.
God says, so we needn't worry our little heads over whether or not He will fulfil His end of the deal!
