After probably two decades the Philistines re-surface in David's life.
The same ones who David ran off with their 'big man's' sword.
The ones who he had put in their place after they had defiled the One True God.
They were back.
And they wanted David--but they didn't want him dead.
David was worth more to them alive than dead. Alive they could humiliate, torture, exhibit him as a spoil of war. They could torment him. They would be able to use him against David's people. They might even parade him around as a prized pet in their zoo.
Our enemy does the same thing.
He wants us captured, not killed. Alive and under his spell he believes he can control us.
He wants to control our minds and thoughts. He wants to break us down, mentally and physically. He wants to show the world his control over us.
Will we let him?
Will we do what David did and run to the Stronghold of God and ask how God wants us to fight against him?
Will we let our enemy capture us, or will we put up a fight that tires him and sends him off with his tail tucked between his legs?
