THE PAIN OF HEALING
Today's reading: Isaiah 19-22
"The Lord will strike Egypt in a way that will bring healing. For the Egyptians will turn to the Lord, and he will listen to their pleas and heal them." Isaiah 19:22 NLT
Ever thought about the pain of healing?
For example, a medical test reveals that a person has a tumor. A tumor that is cause for concern, but previously undetected by the person. No pain. No discomfort. No symptoms.
This tumor is a medical hazard and needs to be removed. Doctors say it will grow and lead to more complications, possibly cancer, eventually death. It needs to be removed surgically. Skin and muscles cut away. Stitches. Nerve endings left to mend. Pain will be involved.
This type of healing pain is tolerated. Appreciated. Considered a God send.
Why isn't it considered the same when God removes from our lives things that aren't good for us?
Why don't we appreciate the pain of healing in our spiritual walks?
Why do we often prefer to keep the cancerous sin instead of allowing God to surgically remove it with His loving guidance, the commands of His Word, the help of fellow believers?
What pain are we willing to endure to be more Christlike? Any at all?
