YEAR END
Today's reading: Jude
"May you receive more and more of God's mercy, peace and love." Jude verse 3 NLT
As the year comes to a close, it's reassuring to know we have not exhausted God's supplies!
As many times as we've called on His forgiveness, He is still able to grant us mercy for the new year.
As often as we've sought out His peace amidst the storms, dark nights and trying times, His calm is available.
As repeatedly as we've needed His love to wrap us, to comfort us, to show us He will take us back again, it still is in abundance.
The New Year holds great things in store for God's children...especially the promise and possibility of receiving more and more of Him!

NO NEED
Today's reading: Revelation 18-22
"And there will be no night there--no need for lamps or sun--for the Lord God will shine on them. And they will reign forever and ever." Revelation 22:7 NLT
Winter nights are long and dark. Pain-filled nights, the same. Nights filled with worry and fear are quite possibly worse than either.
Warm, comfy blankets help. Medications and movement sometimes alleviate. Kind words, verses of encouragement and fellowship pacify.
But what helps the most? Morning.
The sun shining. The shadows gone. The brightness of day.
Heaven promises no dark nights. No shadows. No pain.
But now?
For now, we have what we need in His shining glory, in His presence, in His faithfulness.

THE POWER OF LOVE
Today's reading: Song of Solomon 7-8
"Many waters cannot quench love; neither can rivers drown it. If a man tried to buy love with everything he owned, his offer would be utterly despised." Song of Solomon 8:7 NLT
It's time to take stock of all your assets. The year is ending and now is a great time to reflect on what all you've accomplished, what all you've gained and what all you still hope to attain. It's time to take inventory of all your blessings.
Let's start with God's blessing of love in your life.
There are those you love.
There are those who love you.
There is God who is love.
Love is an amazing thing! Anyone with a portion of it in their life is considered wealthy beyond measure.
Go ahead, put pencil to paper and list your assets--be encouraged by the power of love!

TAKE A DEEP BREATH
Today's reading: Psalm 149-150
"Let everything that lives sing praises to the Lord! Praise the Lord!" Psalm 150:6 NLT
Where you're sitting, yes, right there where you are, take in a deep breath. Slowly exhale. Now do it again.
Can you feel your lungs fill? Your chest rise? As you push the breath out, do you feel emptied?
You are now qualified.
Qualified?
Yes, qualified. Qualified to be praising our Lord! Breathing is a sign of life. Life is a prerequisite of praise--for and to the One who gives all life.
Nothing exempts you but death. But in all reality, death will only bring about eternal life and eternal praise, now doesn't it?

HOLY-DAYS
Today's reading: Esther 6-10
There are several new holidays expected to be celebrated in the year 2012. National Sweet Potato Day, Worldwide Pizza Day, National Left-Handers Day and National Red nail Polish Day, to name a few.
Anything, well practically anything, can be chosen to be commemorated on a given day, with feasting, gifts and gatherings.
This upcoming year, I'm determining in my heart and mind to begin celebrating special days hand-crafted by God...
"These days would be remembered and kept from generation to generation and celebrated by every family throughout the provinces and cities of the empire. These days would never cease to be celebrated among the Jews, nor would the memory of what happened ever die out among their descendants." Esther 9:28 NLT
I'm going to use my planner to denote special prayers answered, God-given blessings given and celebratory happenings in His kingdom and in my heart! I'm going to put them down in red, transfer them to next year's planner and celebrate all He's done.
I'm expecting a planner 'full of red' in 2012! I believe I'm going to see some amazing things with His fingerprints all over them. I am well aware that He gives me so much to celebrate--I'm beginning to set aside the holy-days just for Him!

AFTER
Today's reading: Deuteronomy 32-34
"He is the Rock; his work is perfect. Everything he does is just and fair. He is a faithful God who does no wrong; how just and upright he is!" Deuteronomy 32:4 NLT
Once the shepherd went back to their flocks and the wise men's camels faded into the horizon, how did Mary feel?
A brand new baby. A busy town. Taxes left to pay. A new husband. A daunting trip back to Nazareth after having just given birth. Dirty diapers. Hormonal highs and lows.
Did she have to remind herself of the truths of this verse? Did she have to verbally speak praise to God while she shook her head in wonderment of how He would answer? Did she repeat the words to her newborn as she rocked Him, comforted Him, swaddled Him?
What she and Joseph did after the 'nativity scene' dispersed set the stage for Jesus' future as the King of Kings and the Worker of miracles.
What we do once the nativity scene is stored back in the attic sets the stage for His work to be completed through us as well!
Merry day after Christmas--He's still as wonderful today as He was yesterday!

NOT A PENDANT
Today's reading: Acts 27-28
"...I am bound with this chain because I believe that the hope of Israel--the Messiah--has already come." Acts 28:20 NLT
The chain Paul referred to was not a gold filigreed type wrapped up by your local jeweler. He was bound by prisoners' chain for having believed, and lived out the belief, of one little Baby born in Bethelehem.
Paul was willing to die. Willing to bear persecution. Willing to be shipwrecked, beaten, ostracized and convicted to proclaim the promises fulfilled in this Little One's birth, the miracles performed in His life and the power available through His death.
His faith was not just a pendant he wore around his neck as adornment or fashion--it went much deeper, higher, longer and farther than that.
What about yours? What does your life say about this Messiah who has already come?

PREPARATIONS
Today's reading: 3 John
I remember when I was expecting Isaiah. I recall preparing a room. Preparing our home. Preparing our lifestyle. Preparing our budget. Preparing our car. Preparing our families. Preparing our hearts.
The excitement. The anticipation. The awe. The wonder. The joy. The dreams. The hopes. The anxiety.
There's another Baby coming that I need to prepare for.
My schedule needs adjusted. My attitude needs adjusted. My mind needs adjusted. My emotions need to be adjusted. Any grudges I have need set aside. Any bitterness I'm harboring needs to be placed out of my reach.
A wonderful Baby is about to arrive, am I as prepared? I've known of His coming. I've been made well aware of my need for Him.
Will I be prepared, heart and mind, when this Child arrives?

HERE AND NOW
Today's reading: Revelation 12-17
"...But do not be dismayed, for here is your opportunity to have endurance and faith." Revelation 13:10 NLT
Believe it or not, Christmas time might well be one of the most stress-filled, blood pressure-raising, harder-to-be-Christian times of the year!
More people to tolerate. More pet peeves to overlook. More unloveliness to ignore. More folks ignoring the real reason for the season and more saints acknowledging the Christ Child in more determined ways than you.
'Tis the season!
To try harder. To glow more brightly with Christ's love. To tend to hurting lambs and stand-offish prodigals. To smile. To laugh. To relax and enjoy every moment.
Here and now is our opportunity to show God's love--in honor of the Baby's birth!

WHERE I AM
Today's reading: Esther 1-5
"His family had been exiled from Jerusalem to Babylon by King Nebuchadnezzar, along with King Jehoichan of Judah and many others." Esther 2:6 NLT
Our Scripture refers to Mordecai, Queen Esther's wise, old uncle. A man who chose to be used by God where ever he was, in what ever way God needed him.
He could have been whining and complaining about his circumstances--I'm sure several of his Jewish friends were.
He could have sat around with his arms crossed and his smile turned upside-down--one might say he had reason.
He could have turned his back completely on God for allowing such devastating occurences to come to his life--imagine, being exiled from your homeland.
He could have, but he didn't.
Mordecai believed God would rectify the situation. Mordecai believed in the promises repeated to him for years and years. Mordecai continued to trust the Lord, and his trust allowed him to be used in a special way to help Esther and the Jewish people.
What about us? A lot of us are in tough spots right now. Things have happened that seem unfair. Life have thrown us a few curve balls which we were not prepared for. People have let us down. God's will has prevailed, as it always will, and it wasn't what we'd hoped for.
Will we continue to trust? Will our hearts focus on what's wrong, or on what's promised? Will be step up and volunteer for God to use us in the spot we're in?
What will we do where we are?

CONFIRMATION
Today's reading: Deuteronomy 29-31
"He wants to confirm you today as his people and to confirm that he is your God..." Deuteronomy 29:13 NLT
Confirmations--I receive them in my 'inbox' all the time. Confirmations of items I've purchased, reservations I've made or e-mails that solidify dates I've penciled into my planner. Reminders of what I've signed up to do, what I've volunteered to make or what a company has promised to send me.
God sends me confirmations on a daily basis, too. The sun shines. The frost sparkles. The trees complete another cycle and rest up for the next. He chooses to prompt friends to drop me a line in the mailbox or on my phone. He speaks to me through His Word, confirming promises made and His presence at all times.
But does He receive confirmation of my acceptance of His important role in my life? Do I make an effort to verify that He is Lord of my heart, my thoughts and my attitudes? Does He ever see any evidence of my being sold-out completely to Him?
I'm not doing so well in maintaining my half of our relationship, but He's allowing me another day to try!

HE'S THAT SOMETHING
Today's reading: Acts 25-26
"It was something about their religion and about someone called Jesus who died, but whom Paul insists is alive." Acts 25:19 NLT
When you see the trees decorated and the lights lit? When you hear the carols sung and the good tidings spoken? When the packages pile up around the tree and the nativities are carefully arranged? While the baking is being done and the children's programs are in full swing?
When what's going on around you stirs something much deeper in your heart than Santa Claus and the list you could give him?
When the receiving warms your heart and the giving thrills your soul, but something exceeds it all?
Are you fully aware, totally convinced and wholeheartedly certain Jesus is that something?

KIDS OF FAITH
Today's reading: 2 John
"How happy I was to meet some of your children and find them living in the truth, just as we have been commanded by the Father." 2 John 4 NLT
I've had the exciting, wearying and very rewarding opportunity to work with the kids in our church on their Christmas program which will be presented tomorrow night. We've practiced songs, said and re-said lines and worked together on how best to behave when the spotlight's on and it's not our turn to speak or sing.
The kids in our church are being raised by parents of faith--and that shows in the kids. Now, being a parent myself, I know godly rearing is not always evident in how one behaves. But the influence and the beliefs are there to be tapped into when the behavior warrants doubt.
The kids, play directors and I have decided that we're going to do our best, work our hardest and trust God to use our little Christmas play to reach someone who doesn't yet know the Christmas Baby. We remind the kids and ourselves of that very important task at every practice...
And I'm reminding myself of that on a daily basis. You see, the Lord has commanded me to do what we're doing on the stage where ever I am! Not just in December! Not just when the spotlight is on me!
I'm one of His, that gives me an important role to play!

A TISSUE, PLEASE
Today's reading: Revelation 7-11
"For the Lamb who stands in front of the throne will be their Shepherd. He will lead them to the springs of life-giving water. And God will wipe away all their tears." Revelation 7:17 NLT
When your heart is heavy, do you need this precious reminder? When your spirits have sunk? When you feel alone? Rejected? Walked on?
It's not just for the grieving. It's for the disappointed. The broken. The hurting. The helpless.
It's for the families that will be separated this season, due to nothing more or less than hurt feelings, misunderstandings or pride.
It's for the living, breathing, fully functioning individuals that folks might be surprised to know are empty and alone.
It's for the church members who need to have their memory jogged in regards to this not being all their is.
It's for me. It's for you.

PRODUCING FRUIT
Today's reading: Song of Solomon 3-4
"You are like a lovely orchard bearing precious fruit, with the rarest of perfumes: nard and saffron, calamus and cinnamon, myrrh and aloes, perfume from every incense tree, and every other lovely spice." Song of Solomon 4:13-14 NLT
Thanks to the intimate words shared between Solomon and his bride, my heart has been lifted this morning. Encouraged. Spurred on. Delivered out of complacency. Reminded of His plan for me.
You see, I'd always thought of myself as producing 'garden variety' fruit for the Lord. The occasional potato of service. A tomato of supplication here and there. And zucchini-prolific intentions to live for Him each day. What I did, I thought was run of the mill in the Lord's eyes. I figured, and I love it when He chooses to open a window of enlightenment, that the fruit produced in my heart's garden was common, plain and down right run-of-the-mill.
But spices?
He notices when I dig deeper, work harder, pray more fervently and rise up with godliness--and thus produce amazing fruit only He and I can produce!
He takes into account each and every opportunity I am faced with to stand for Him. He knows the fruit, specialty fruit, produced when I do actually close my mouth to what I want to say allow him to speak through me--or my silence.
He catches a whiff of the exotic fragrances produced when I walk through my life in gratitude and thankfulness.
And I realize: potatoes, tomatoes and zucchini sustain, but spices? Spices add variety and intensity!
How exciting to know I'm so special to Him!

NEW DISCOVERIES
Today's reading: Psalm 143-145
Yesterday's Associated Press article caught my eye. It stated that in 2010 there were 208 new species of animals discovered around the world. New wildly colored lizards, new earless monkies and some pretty amazing little frogs. Animals never seen or photographed by man.
Does it surprise you, like it did me, that in our age of knowledge something new in God's creation can still be discovered?
Handiwork of His that has escaped man's eye, civilization and encyclopedias. Something old in a new style, color or category.
"Great is the Lord! He is most worthy of praise! His greatness is beyond discovery!" Psalm 145:3 NLT
It gives me hope. Sure it does, hope that the things He has planned for me are beyond my wildest dreams, incomprehendable and yet to be discovered. I am excited to be reminded that He still, even after sending Jesus, wants to amaze us with His creativity and love!

MY PART
Today's reading: Nehemiah 10-13
"...So we promise together not to neglect the Temple of our God." Nehemiah 10:39 NLT
Mind helping me with a resolution I'm wanting to succeed at? It's one that I'm so determined to 'get right' that I'm willing to start these few weeks before New Year's Day. It's one that influences my family, some very dear friends, folks I do not know yet and myself.
I want to live out the vow Nehemiah and his congregation made to preserve, promote and participate in God's house.
It goes beyond attending, which shouldn't be neglected. It surpasses slipping a check in the plate, although it's the least we can do. It extends to my attitude, my preparation for worship and my prayers for my church--the mission, its ministries, my church family and the ones God will direct to come through our doors.
I need help.
Oh, it's not that I don't want to fulfill this task with excellence, it's just that sometimes, well, sometimes I get in the way.
I need to do all I can to build my church. I need to help in every way I see to promote its growth and increase its size. I need to stoop to pick up candy wrappers and wipe little noses. I need to be prepared, before Sunday, to worship wholeheartedly--for God's sake, for my sake and for the sake of the service. I need to be grown-up enough to realize not everyone will do things my way. I need to expect my feelings to be hurt and be willing to let the bruises be healed by God. I need to not neglect my church.
And that's where I need your help. It's a mighty big job, one I cannot do well on my own. Won't you help me? I'll do the same for you, if you need me to.
WHAT DO I EXPECT?
Today's reading: Deuteronomy 26-28
"Because you have not served the Lord your God with joy and enthusiasm for the abundant benefits you have received, you will serve your enemies whom the Lord will send against you. You will be left hungry, thirsty, naked and lacking in everything. They will oppress you harshly until you are destroyed." Deuteronomy 28:47-48 NLT
Half-hearted service. Mediocre attempts at ministry. Get it done just so it's done workmanship. Do it because no one else will, or even worse: because no one else will do it the way you want it done.
What are you 'getting' for your service for the Lord?
What do you expect?
How will you serve differently now that you've read the words given to us today?

OUR HOPE
Today's reading: Acts 23-24
"I have hope in God..." Acts 24:15 NLT
As Paul stood before the Jewish leaders who would decide his fate, he made this simple statement of faith.
He did not depend upon them for justice, right decision making or help. He couldn't, they were merely men.
What about you?
As you stand in front of a jury of your peers? In the middle of a trial of faith? Amidst crashing waves and boating-sinking winds--are you making the same statement of faith?
Though all may crumble around you, are you depending upon God for all you need and want?

ALREADY WON
Today's reading: 1 John 4-5
You needn't worry. There's no use concerning yourself about it. Wondering is not necessary. You see, it's all taken care of, the deal is sealed, the technicalities worked out and the outcome revealed...you as a child of God, are victorious!
"But you belong to God, my dear children. You have already won your fight with those false prophets, because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world." 1 John 4:4 NLT
That truth, once you firmly and wholeheartedly believe it, should free up a lot of your time. That one verse, if you grasp it with both hands, can settle things for you that remain unsettled--tie up any loose ends, one might say. That statement, given only to the saved and redeemed by Christ's blood, is what makes us different from the rest of the world. Those words, memorized and repeated, can and will be a might cheer of victory.
So, what will you do with the truth? How shall it change you, your day, your life, your witness? And my final question: What will you do with all the free time it provides you?

MY FIRST LOVE
Today's reading: Revelation 1-6
"Look how far you have fallen from your first love! Turn back to me again and work as you did at first..." Revelation 2:5 NLT
Some of you write about how convinced you are I pen certain devotions just for you. You tell of it hitting you where you need it. You speak of being convicted. You mention me doing everything to point to you, except typing in your name.
I wish this morning I felt I was writing for you--for anyone really. I wish so much I were.
The Christmas season, the hustle and bustle of lives lived in the world but not for the world and this verse have really stopped me in my tracks this morning. My heart's pounding. My stomach has that sick knotted feel to it.
I don't do, pray, seek, honor, live for, worship, speak of, bow before, testify or spend time with God like I once did.
Oh, it's not that I don't do all those things anymore, it's just I've allowed the excitement and awe to turn what I do for Him each day into a ritual, a routine, a task or a line to mark off my to-do list.
I'm noticing, by the grace and mercy of God, that I have fallen away from my first love. So, excuse me while He and I spend a little time talking that sad fact over.

HOW DO YOU?
Today's reading: Psalm 140-142
"Let the godly strike me! It will be a kindness! If they reprove me, it is soothing medicine. Don't let me refuse it..." Psalm 141:5 NLT
How do you take your Christian brother or sister-given constructive criticism?
No, I'm not talking about Sister So-And-So's running commentary on your most recent hairstyle or your choice of pants over a skirt, but the real walking-the-walk and talking-the-talk critiques?
Do you bristle? Do you throw in the towel? Do you cross your arms and storm off in a huff? Do you avoid that section of pews from that Sunday on? Do you whimper? Do you begin a long list of their own faults and failures?
Or, like David, do you consider it a gift from God that He cares enough for you to send a fellow sojourner to help you along the path? Do you accept it as from God and ponder how you might work on the area in question?
We're surrounded, in any church, with family members whose advice we esteem and whose advice we sweep under the rug. Take time today to ask God to send the helpful hints your way. Ask Him to surround you with brothers and sisters in Christ who care enough about you to bruise your ego and take you down a few notches--in love. Ask Him to never ever leave you to your own devices!
And ask Him to allow you grace to take it all with a spoonful of sugar!

FULL VIEW
Today's reading: Nehemiah 5-9
"So on October 2 the wall was finally finished--just fifty-two days after we had began. When our enemies and the surrounding nations heard about it, they were frightened and humiliated. They realized that this work had been done with the help of the Lord." Nehemiah 6:15-16 NLT
I've always like Nehemiah. I believe he was a man of character, conviction and common sense. He was a great leader, an encourager and a godly man. He chose to work , serve and write for the Lord.
I believe, despite his position, he was a down to earth kind of guy. Must have been, or he'd have not put such plain words into his book....and especially these two verses.
He knew how quickly God had completed the task of rebuilding the wall, so he mentioned it. He knew the neighbors had been watching, tormenting and mocking them while they worked, so he mentioned it. He knew that this mighty work of God was a 'hot topic' around their dinner tables, so he mentioned it.
How does it relate to us? Glad you asked...
I believe you and I are enduring some things that once God is done will leave our enemies and neighbors with their jaws on the ground! We'll go through tough times, but our stories will be the talk o the town. We will experience peace and joy, amazing joy, during hard times that will leave our mockers shaking their heads in disbelief.
I don't believe our stories are being 'written' just for our sakes. Firstly, God's penning them in order to receive the glory an honor. Secondly, He's allowing what you go through to affect, or infect, the lives of those you might not be able to reach any other way.
Join God in what He's doing in your life. Allow Him to use you to grab the attention of unsaved friends and loved ones. Expect some big things to be accomplished by God!

WHAT IF IT WERE
Today's reading: Deuteronomy 23-25
"No Ammonites or Moabites, or any of their descendants for ten generations, may be included in the assembly of the Lord." Deuteronomy 23:3 NLT
I've pondered this verse in my heart this morning.
I know God made this declaration based on the treatment of His people by the country of Ammon and Moab as they traveled in the forty-year trek. I know He is just in what He does, says and proclaims.
But, what if I was in generation eight, nine or ten of those families?
What if I'd grown up beside a godly Jewish family, played with their kids, watched how they lived, saw all their blessings--wanted to know their God? I would have probably been unaware of exactly what 'my' family had done to warrant exile from the church. I would have been so far removed (generationally) from the circumstances that no blame should be placed upon my shoulders. I would have lived desiring the fellowship of a synagogue family. To be invited to one of their potlucks. To be able to view on of their Christmas programs. A singing.
Would I, in keeping with God had spoken, be preparing my family for generation eleven? Might I do what I could at home to promote relationships with Yahweh? Might I study what I could of the scrolls? Would I stand as closely to the church house as I could without legally 'going in'? Would I grill my neighbors as to what their sermon was about as soon as they got home from church?
What if it were us? How much would we want it?
You think it's silly that I mention a time when we might not be allowed into God's house for worship and services? Silly, huh?

HARD TO FIND
Today's reading: Acts 21-22
"We went ashore, found the local believers and stayed a week..." Acts 21:4 NLT
How was it Paul and his fellow travelers found the 'church'?
No neon signs. No grand temples or synagogues for God in this area. No togas or robes embellished with crosses or Jesus fish. No television pastors inviting them to attend their pre-recorded services. No yellow pages. No World Wide Web.
Did they stick out? Was it obvious?
How do people know about our relationships with Christ?
Is it how they see us react in volatile situations? Is it how they see us cling to slivers of hope? Is it our responses during storms, trials, heartbreaking seasons?
Could they recognize your helping hand? Your over-sized compassion? Your genuine smile?
The lost world, individuals in the lost world, and hurting Christians are looking for us--will we be found?

A SMALL SACRIFICE
Today's reading: 1 John 1-3
"He is the sacrifice for our sins..." 1 John 2:2 NLT
I think about it at Easter.
Good Friday happenings remind me of His sacrifice for me. The blood spilled to purchase my release from sin's bondage. The forgiveness offered to rescue me from hell. The ultimate plan carried out to the most minute detail, resulting in an empty grave and a adopted child.
But to think of it at Christmas?
To think of a tiny baby lying in a manger as my Sacrifice? To imagine this newborn holding in his clenched fists the keys to my eternity? To think the One who came, hurt, died and rose again for me, spending His first few days in a barn?
My Small Sacrifice is on my heart and mind this morning. What He did for me, beginning on that quiet Christmas Day, including an Easter Sunday resurrection and today's touch--is nothing short of a miracle!

SO, ACT
Today's reading: Malachi
You've heard the old saying, 'Actions speak louder than words', haven't you? Spoken them? To your children, a repentative friend or in regards to an unlovable and in need of forgiveness family member? Have you offered the words as advice?
Have you heard God speak them to you?
"You have wearied he Lord with your words..." Malachi 2:17 NLT
God, the Creator of the universe, has bent His ear to your confession. He has allowed His Son to die on the cross for your forgiveness. He has chosen to wipe your slate clean. And you? You choose to step back onto the same path of ungodliness, into the same pit of temptation, to sidle up to the same ungodly friends who have let you down before.
He is a forgiving God--but let's be honest here, how much is too much?
Are you willing to risk having to ask Him one more time in regards to the same 'issue'? Are you sure He believes your tears? Knowing He sees your heart, do you think He is wearied with your words?
So, act! Do what's right. Choose, one decision at a time, to make Him proud. Allow what you do today to prove to Him that His offer, His offering and His outrageous grace are not wasted on you!

WINDY CONDITIONS
Today's reading: Ecclesiastes 11-12
"God's ways are as hard to discern as the pathways of the wind, and as mysterious as a tiny baby being formed in a mother's womb." Ecclesiastes 11:7 NLT
Ever tried to figure out just what the wind might do? Where it might blow? What it might destroy or what it might comfort with a light breeze? Ever attempted to predict whose house might be destroyed in a tornado or whose home might be saved when the wind changes direction and a wildfire turns another route?
It would be kind of like trying to figure out God.
God places a lot of 'whys' in our lives. He gives us cause to think on many things. He places in our paths many opportunities to wonder what He's up to and how in the world He's going to work it all out!
Why the marriage goes through a storm and comes out stronger on the other end? Why a couple waits and waits for the baby? Why one is healed medically and goes on living and another is healed spiritually and begins eternal life? Why circumstances allow a prodigal to wander for years and then return?
Are you trying to figure God out? Are you studying His past actions to see if you can see a pattern? Have you allotted a lot of your time in guessing what His next move might be? Are you finding yourself scratching your head when your well-laid plans and suppositions are upended?
It's just like trying to discern the pathways of the wind.
Allow Him to be God. Allow His choices to overwhelm you. Allow His plans to lead you and those you love to a life of peace and joy in His presence. Allow His hand to guide you, support you and comfort you when the winds of change blow.

INTRIGUED
Today's reading: Psalm 137-139
"You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother's womb." Psalm 139:13 NLT
Medical things intrigue me. What goes on beneath the surface of our skin amazes me. How systems, organs and such work together to make me is so interesting.
Like how miles and miles of capillaries, veins and arteries function as one unit.
Or how our heart pumps involuntarily our entire lives.
Or how germs or bacteria are fought within our bodies.
Yes, things like that leave me scratching my head in amazement and wonder...so why can't I believe He has everything else about my life well in His control?
My future?
My plans?
My purpose?
If God so chooses to work on the intricate inner parts of me with such precision and detail, won't He do the same with the externals?

DO NOT, DO NOT!
Today's reading: Deuteronomy 20-22
"...Do not be afraid as you go out to fight today!..." Deuteronomy 20:3 NLT
Obstacles will be placed in your path by your enemy--do not be afraid!
Temptations will surface and rage at your weakest points--do not be afraid!
Darkness may very well overshadow you--do not be afraid!
Your attempts will be misconstrued and taken out of context--do not be afraid!
Failure may occur--do not be afraid!
Plans may not come to fruition--do not be afraid!
Friends, and family, will let you down--do not be afraid!
Things will happen, things will fail to happen. People will surprise you, in good ways and in bad. God will be with you every step of the way, whether you see Him or not! Satan will try his best to thwart every effort you make to choose godliness, but he will not win if you do not allow him to.
Stay strong. You've got a battle ahead of you, but you don't have to be afraid--God's right beside you.

GOING TO CHURCH
Today's reading: Acts 19-20
"Then Paul went to the synagogue and preached boldly for the next three months arguing persuasively about the Kingdom of God." Acts 19:8 NLT
Some of Paul's toughest critics might well have been in the pews those three months he held a revival meeting.
Your pastor's mission field might possibly be the one he sees from his pulpit today.
Our churches are filled, when they're filled, with unbelievers who have met the Savior of their lives.
Doubt it?
Are there folks in your congregation (I'm not even speaking about your own issues) living half-heartedly? Robbed of blessings? Empty? Filled with doubt and fears that have no place in the hearts and lives of His children?
As you step inside the doors of your church this morning--go prepared in prayer. The Holy Spirit very well may fall on your church this morning, will you be the one who invited Him?

BLOOD, SWEAT & TEARS
Today's reading: 2 Peter
"So, dear brothers and sisters, work hard to prove that you really are among those God has called and chosen. Doing this you will never stumble or fall away." 2 Peter 1:10 NLT
Are you working your tail off trying to be worthy of Christ's sacrifice for you?
Are you looking for any spot He's working in or about and joining Him there?
Do you fidget while waiting for the next opportunity to serve, worship or bow before Him?
Are you excitedly anticipating where it is He will use you next?
Don't just sit around gathering dust--work for the Master!

REMEMBERING WHO
Today's reading: Zechariah 8-14
"...This message is from the Lord, who stretched out the heavens, laid the foundations of the earth and formed the spirit within humans." Zechariah 12:1 NLT
I have to tell you, I sometimes forget Who it is speaking the messages of the Bible to me.
I fail to remember the vastness of His power, the immensity of His abilities and the scope of His love.
I tend to forget how timeless His messages are--to whom He's spoken over the generations.
I needed the reminder this morning that my notes of encouragement, my messages of conviction and urgings to contine on in His work comes straight from the One who has done all, knows all and is all!

ONE DAY?
Today's reading: Ecclesiastes 9-10
I've decided already this morning: one day of thanksgiving is not enough!
I'm not talking about preparing a meal, eating the delicacies or visiting with family--I'm talking about the thankfulness!
One day out of 365 will never alot me enough time to thank God for all He's done for me. One day will never stretch out long enough to enable to list each and every blessing He's bestowed on my life--and to be able to thank Him for them. One week wouldn't do it. One month couldn't contain them all. The entire year would still not be enough time.
So I'm deciding to live a life of thanksgiving. Every day thanks. Every moment in realization that He is too good to me!

TOO BLESSED
Today's reading: Ezra 6-10
"...I felt encouraged because the gracious hand of the Lord my God was on me." Ezra 7:28 NLT
I've been challenged since about summer by a book I read. The book, 'One Thousand Gifts', has me journaling or writing down the blessings of God I come in contact with each day. Little things, big things, surprising things, things I've overlooked for years.
I am amazed by all He does for me! Just like Ezra was all these years ago.
The book stresses that our relationship with God, our communion with Him, is solidly based in the thanks we give Him. The thanks He so richly deserves, but we so easily forget to give.
Things I've noticed and written down in my 'gifts book'?
...watermelon juice dripping down a little boy's chin
...cartoon-looking clouds in a robin's egg blue sky
...the red of a garden grown tomato
...the snores of a hard-working husband
...a prayer meeting on the parking lot of a lumberyard
...the smell of freshly tilled ground
...a card from a friend
Is this act of journaling given me some deeper spiritual insight? Oh, I don't know. I cannot tell you it has done anything more for me than to take my eyes off of what I might not have and focus them on all He's already provided. Do I feel closer to God because of my 'list'? Yes, I really do. I'm seeing Him in more places and acknowledging Him more readily.
What a week for you to start your own list!

MEMORY
Today's reading: Deuteronomy 16-19
"Remember that you were slaves..." Deuteronomy 16:12 NLT
I believe it's time for an old-fashioned testimony service! It's time those of us who have been washed by the blood, redeemed of our sins and cleansed from all unrighteousness stand up and make a public announcement as to who we were and how good He is!
I'm not who I used to be. Bitterness, anger, fear and hate used to fill my heart. Looking out for 'me' was my past-time. My opinions and the statement thereof were my occupation. My plans, and my plans only, were what I was committed to.
But God, in His goodness, has taken me, worked on me, molded me into a closer semblance of His Son and is slow to anger when I slip up!
I remember who I once was--and it sickens me. I recall, vividly, how I once behaved, spoke and whittled away my days on things of less than eternal value--and I'm ashamed. I used to be bound by doubts, wonderings and every passing 'help-yourself' scheme.
But today, I'm no longer a slave! And remember that makes all He's done so much more amazing!
Can I hear someone testify?

HE'S THE ONE
Today's reading: Acts 17-18
"...This Jesus I'm telling you about is the Messiah." Acts 17:3 NLT
Paul spoke to people who had been looking. He spoke to people who were in need. His sermons and conversations centered around the fact that his listeners sought answers, solace and help. And Paul, speaking of Jesus, told them he had their answer!
We needn't keep looking as the Jews do. There will never be another who fulfills prophecy to the extent Jesus Christ, infant born in Bethlehem, child growing up in Nazareth, son of a carpenter did.
And still does today.
Whatever you might be searching for, you'll find in Jesus: companionship, peace, comfort, joy, purpose, love, salvation, eternal life.
This Jesus I'm telling you about is all you need!

I KNOW
Today's reading: 1 Peter 4-5
"Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about what happens to you." 1 Peter 5:7 NLT
I know it's You, Lord. You're the one doing it, allowing it to happen, attempting to focus my attention where You need it to be.
Today, You've highlighted, underlined, spotlighted and boldly printed the word, 'all'.
Could it be because 'all' is not what I've been giving You in regards to my worries and cares? Yes, You're right--as usual.
I tend to hold back on, to keep to myself, a few doubts and fears I have.
No! No, it's not that I don't think You can handle them. No, it's not that I think You're incapable. No, it's not that I've not read that I'm precious to You--redeemed for the price of Your Only Son's blood.
Why I do it is a mystery, even to me. It never works out well. It seldom ends with less than a caustic attitude, a headache and usually stomach issues.
All, huh? Well, I'm going to give it a try. All...wow, what a change in lifestyle for me!

CELEBRATE
Today's reading: Zechariah 1-7
I do not suffer from low self-esteem, but I can honestly tell you--I am a nobody.
No degrees. No titles. No highly honored positions.
There is no reason what so ever that Christ would have ever, and I mean ever, died on the cross for me--but He did!
And that's reason to celebrate!
"The Lord said, Shout and rejoice, O Jersusalem, for I am coming to live among you." Zechariah 2:10 NLT
Jesus, Son of God, has chosen, by my invitation, to live in my heart. God has allowed His blood to wash away my sins and pay the debt for my grievances.
Today I shout and rejoice along with Jerusalem because He has come to live among the likes of me--and you!

SOLOMON'S SAYINGS
Today reading: Ecclesiastes 7-8
"Being wise is as good as being rich, in fact, it is better." Ecclesiastes 7:11 NLT
Could they cash that at the bank? Was Solomon silly enough to believe the world, even at his time, ran on anything else but money? Did Solomon's wisdom make him the richest man in the world, or did all Solomon's wealth make him smarter?
And how might it apply to us?
Well, most of us would agree that the most of the things that pull at our purse strings, the things that stretch us financially, the things that cause our hearts and pocketbooks discomfort come from less than smart choices on our behalf.
A poor purchase? A line of extended credit that wasn't really necessary? A house bigger than our lifestyle required? A faster, fancier vehicle? Several purchases on the credit card? A financed vacation?
Maybe, Solomon was right--wisdom is more important than money. If we used our God-given, sought after what God's best, might we be richer in so many ways?

INVITATIONS
Today's reading: Psalm 131-133
Preparations are already being made for this Sunday's service. Once Wednesday night's prayer meeting is over, the pastor will buckle down and seek God's will as to the message He needs him to present. The song leader will be in prayer as to what songs God would like to be worshipped with. Folks are already inviting un-churched friends and family members to join them for the service. The janitor has already made his/her plans as to what day will work best to vacuum the floors and shine up the glass on the doors. Sunday meals are already being planned out.
But will God be invited to many churches this Sunday?
"Arise, O Lord, and enter your sanctuary..." Psalm 132:8 NLT
The church is only a building, a fancy building, without God's presence. No good thing, no matter the level of benevolence, can be done with His participation. Lives can be altered by people, but saved from an eternity in hell only by God.
As you make your preparations for the upcoming Lord's Day, consider inviting Him into those plans!

A GREAT BIG SPOON
Today's reading: Ezra 1-5
"Then God stirred the hearts..." Ezra 1:5 NLT
I have varying sizes of spoons in my kitchen. Teaspoons for daintily stirring sugar into my cup of tea, soup spoons for getting mouthfuls of chili to my mouth without spilling a drop, tablespoons for serving up side dishes and great big wooden spoons for mixing up batches of cookies or stirring big pots of pasta.
Do you think God uses various sized spoons for His heart-stirring?
Tiny spoons to re-direct thoughts towards Him and His ways? Medium sized spoons for instilling a mission in one's heart? Big, God-sized spoons for stirring up one's heart toward receiving His gift of salvation?
I'm praying that God do some stirring in my life. I want to see my heart bent more towards His service and His ministry. I desire His stirring in my soul to such a degree that anything I want for myself, or have schemed or plotted for, to be set aside for His work. I plan on asking Him to stir His 'big wooden spoon' in the direction of my unsaved loved ones and friends.
What I might stir up usually brings about trouble, what God 'stirs-up' is wonderfully wonderful!

SPECIAL
Today's reading: Deuteronomy 13-15
Would a crown upon your head make you walk more gracefully?
Might a gown of the finest silk or a suit of the most expensive fabric cause you to hold your head a little higher?
Would the title, Duke, Duchess, King, President, Supreme Most Important One set a little self-confidence into your stride?
How about this...
"You have been set aside as holy to the Lord your God, and he has chosen you to be his own special treasure from all the nations of the earth." Deuteronomy 14:2NLT
You are 'all that', by what my Bible says! Because of His sacrifice for your life, you can hold your head up high and walk with confidence and assurance because of Whose you are. Your past, your genetics, your former associations pale in comparison to who He has made you into.
Do not allow satan to sell you the lie about being worthless, un-needed, less than or of little importance...because that's not what God says about it!

FAMILY CIRCLE
Today's reading: Acts 15-16
"Trembling with fear, the jailer called for lights and ran to the dungeon and fell down before Paul and Silas. He brought them out and asked, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? They replied, Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved, along with your entire household." Acts 16:29-31 NLT
Paul and Silas knew one man's salvation experience could not be passed down like an inheritance to another, but they also knew the impact one man-or one person- filled with Christ can have on their household.
What about you? Are you the only believer in your family? Might you be the only one to bow your head in prayer at the Thanksgiving table? Will your prayers for your family be the only ones God hears?
Keep it up! You will, filled with the Holy Spirit, make an impact on your entire family. You will drop seeds of your faith in various places around your home and in due time, with God's annointing, those seeds will sprout.
You have the awesome responsibility and privilege of glowing with godliness in your home! And you have the promise of the Lord that your godly light will touch others!

FENCES
Today's reading: 1 Peter 1-3
The 'farmers' on this little spot of land have been hard at work building fence. And truth be told, the whole process seems a little more romanticized and simple reading it in a Louis L'Amour novel or watching John Wayne go about it in one of the westerns he's starred in!
But what's confounded me the most? What's made me scratch my head in wonderment? What's caused me the most questions? The animals walk the entire length of their new pasture looking for a way to escape!
They have all they need within the confines our their new home. Food and water are provided. Shelter, warm and cozy shelter I might add, have been provided. Good sturdy wire has been installed to keep predators, their enemies, out. And yet they look for breaks in the fence or weak spot in the wire!
Spiritual, isn't it?
God has given us parameters, borders, boundaries and rules to keep us safe, walking close beside Him and a guaranteed eternity--and we busy ourselves looking for loopholes, pushing the limits and wondering why we're struggling at what He intends to be enjoyable.
Fences? Are you fighting them or enjoying the freedom they provide you?

IS IT TIME
Today's reading: Haggai
"This is what the Lord Almighty says, The people are saying, The time has not yet come to rebuild the Lord's house--the Temple." Haggai 1:2 NLT
The prophet Haggai received these words from God almost 2,500 years ago. The people of his time were satisfied with the Lord's house laying in disrepair, defiled and unused. No one had the desire or inclinatis on to raise God up to His rightful place--in their hearts or in their communities.
Could the same be said today?
Fewer and fewer families are making Sunday a special day of worship in their homes. Businesses are refusing to close their doors on the Lord's Day. Many churches provide 'fast food drive-thru' services for their congregants who don't have the time.
Sad isn't it? And we wonder why God's being pushed aside by our schools, our government, our homes and our own personal convictions.
Is it time to rebuild the Lord's house--both our church houses and His spots in our hearts and homes?

MY LOT
Today's reading: Ecclesiastes 5-6
"...To enjoy your work and accept your lot in life--that is indeed a gift from God." Ecclesiastes 5:19 NLT
It's true, isn't it?
Who I am. Where I am. What I have. Who I'll be. Where I'll go. What I'll achieve.
To come to the realization that it's all based upon God's blessings is an eye-opening and heart-changing moment in time.
Age has little to do with it. Spiritual maturity deepens it, but does not define it. Genealogy affects, but cannot do it for us.
Will today be the day you receive your gift from God?

NEVER
Today's reading: Psalm 128-130
"From my earliest youth my enemies have persecuted me--let Israel now say--from my earliest youth my enemies have persecuted me, but they have never been able to finish me off." Psalm 129:1-2 NLT
Satan has whispered and satan has roared. Unsaved friends have laughed. Ungodly loved ones have mocked and jeered. Society has taken jabs, called me intolerant and dependent. My temptations have lured me away, dirtied my hands and heart and left me alone in the shadows. Their words have cut. Their beatings have hurt. Their accusations have bruised my heart and caused my mind, on more than one occasion, to wonder if I was right..but they've never, never, been able to finish me off!
My enemies have not seen the last of me or my Lord. My enemies cannot take a rest, let up or think for a moment that they've got me for good. My enemies, errantly, believe they've got me--but they don't. My God and I are traveling the path towards godliness. He is not going to leave me and no one, or no thing, will ever drag me away from Him!
What about you?

MY STUFF
Today's reading: 2 Chronicles 33-35
"Then Josiah contributed from his personal property thirty thousand lambs and young goats for the people's Passover offerings and a thousand bulls." 2 Chronicles 35:7 NLT
How would our worship services be different if we all gave a bit of our selves for His cause this Sunday?
Would His Spirit walk the aisles of your church, if you set aside your thoughts and preferences as to the music selected?
Might minds around us focus solely on the hour of worship if we chose to refrain from that extra cup of coffee or at least visit the restroom prior to church beginning?
Would lives be touched and changed for eternity, if you used a little of your own time to dig into the Word prior to the pastor's sermon?
Could it be newcomers to your church might feel more a part of the worship service if they saw you singing along with the choir--regardless of your abilities?
Would the pulse of your church be in beat with God's if only you were to leave a few of your 'things' at home and come simply to worship and adore Him?
Josiah gave what he had in order for his church family to have the worship experience of their lives...would we/are we willing to do the same?

REQUIREMENTS
Today's reading: Deuteronomy 10-12
"And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God require of you? He requires you to fear him, to live according to his will, to love and worship him with all your heart and soul and to obey the Lord's commands and laws that I am giving you today for your own good." Deuteronomy 10:12 NLT
Lord, I'm sorry.
You see, as simple as your requirements seem, I have, well, I have littered what You've asked of me with fine print and alot of gray areas.
I fear you. I do. But I allow my mind to wander from how great You are to how little of your plan and purpose for me I understand.
I strive to live according to Your will, well I do when it's easy, when it's comfortable, when I can do it with little self-control.
Love You? Of course, I do. Worship You? Yes, oh yes. But whole heartedly? Do you grade on a curve? Do you allow for the circumstances of the moment? The season of life I'm in? The location, valley or mountaintop, I'm in?
Obedience, Lord? It does all come down to that, doesn't it? All you really ask of me is to obey. And if I do? If I choose to obey, all of the other requirements fall into place. Simply. Effortlessly. Naturally. Gratefully.
Once again, I'm sorry. You've spoken to my heart about where I am falling short--help me, Lord.

HIS FRIEND
Today's reading: James 4-5
"You adulterers! Don't you realize that friendship with the world makes you an enemy of God? I say it again, if your aim is to enjoy this world, you can't be a friend of God." James 4:4 NLT
Cheating on God? Are your thoughts distracted by what the world half-heartedly offers to you? Are you swayed by good and evil, right and wrong, black and white?
We are placed here for a time. We are given this God-created orb as our temporary dwelling place.
We are loved, sought after, wooed and hopefully won over by the Creator of the universe--but are we true to Him?

WRONGLY ACCUSED
Today's reading: Zephaniah
"Its prophets are arrogant liars seeking their own gain. Its priests defile the Temple by disobeying God's laws. But the Lord is still there in the city, and he does no wrong. Day by day his justice is more evident, but no one takes notice--the wicked know no shame." Zephaniah 3:4-5 NLT
I've wrongly accused God of being 'out to lunch' on some the goings on in the USA. I've falsely allegated that He must be off sleeping somewhere to allow what happens to happen. I think, if only in my mind, that He must have sneezed and such glitches as abortion, religious persecution and same-sex marriages, all but flew under His radar.
But today's verse reminds me that none of that is possible. He is God. He is here. He is there. He is capable of being everywhere, all the time. Nothing gets past Him. No one pushes one over on Him. No surprises or emergencies where He is concerned.
So, I must look harder to see evidence of Him. I must be more diligent in trusting that He is about His business and focus on what it is He has called me to do.

ALL WE SEE
Today's reading: Ecclesiastes 3-4
"God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God's work from beginning to end." Ecclesiastes 3:11 NLT
We have in our minds pre-conceived notions about how things should work. For example, babies are born, experience life and grow into senior citizens; beautiful weddings occur, lifetimes are enjoyed and 75th wedding anniversaries are celebrated with large families and lots of friends; new jobs are attained and spots are cleared off on top of our dressers for the retirement watch they'll give us along with a fat check on a monthly basis.
But those are ideas of what we want to see. Sometimes babies get sick. Young people die. Diagnosis are bad. Vows are broken. Infertility is diagnosed. Pink slips arrive. Pensions are squandered.
God knows, sees and has planned the entire scope of our lives to bring us to our full potential and to bring Him the most glory. He is not surprised when tables are turned, our dreams are broken or the un-thinkable happens.
Trust His view of life. Believe in the scope of eternity He holds in His hands. Trust that He has 'it' all taken care of for you and yours.

KEYS TO SUCCESS
Today's reading: 2 Chronicles 29-32
"In all that he did in the service of the Temple of God and in his efforts to follow the law and the commands, Hezekiah sought his God wholeheartedly. As a result, he was very successful." 2 Chronicles 31:21 NLT
Can we in an age of busy-ness and distractions, serve God wholeheartedly? Can our worship be centered on only Him? Can our greatest attempts be to choose godliness in each and every decision we're faced with?
I believe we can. I do not, however, believe we do.
We can set aside our desires for His will. We can put away the baubles and trappings of the world to serve. We can focus our attention on His face rather than the advertisements plastered everywhere by the world.
We can serve wholeheartedly, but it's going to take all we have, all we can get and all the power He can give us to do it...but once we begin, we'll wonder why in the world we'd not done it before!

NOT ME
Today's reading: Deuteronomy 7-9
"I will say it again. The Lord your God is not giving you this good land because you are righteous, for you are not--you are a stubborn people." Deuteronomy 9:6 NLT
Although I'm as Gentile a one could possibly be, I'm believing I may be part Jewish. No, no genealogical proof or family practices that lead me to believe that way, but there is a striking resemblance--stubbornness!
Nothing I have, despite what I lead myself to believe, is due to my godliness or greatness in God's eyes!
Nothing I've done, worth doing, has anything to do with God's favor resting upon me for my Christian deeds!
My stubborn streak overrides my knowledge of this fact on too many an occasion. My pride allows my head to think I just might be deserving of all God's blessings. My self-centeredness plants all kinds of weedy seeds of sin into my heart that sprout into tree-sized fantasies of my importance in the grand scheme of things.
And then I'm reminded, like in today's verse, that it's not about me.
It's all about Him and how very much He loves me, despite me being as much like myself as I am. God is so good!

WHAT'S SHOWING
Today's reading: James 1-3
"So you see, it isn't enough just to have faith. Faith that doesn't show itself by good deeds is no faith at all--it is dead and useless." James 2:17 NLT
What's showing in regards to your faith?
Are your words filled with hope and anticipation or doubt and dread?
Do your actions lead others to know Whose you are?
Are your temptations just that, temptations and not life-entangling sins?
Are those around you amazed by what you're still clinging to after a lot of others would have thrown in the towel?
Is your faith showing?

TIME IS IN HIS HANDS
Today's reading: Habakkuk
"How long, O Lord, must I call for help?.." Habakkk 1:2 NLT
I spent a portion of my morning conversing with a friend who is as mad as a wet hen at God. She cannot believe He is taking them down a certain path, not answering in the way she wishes He would and, this might be her biggest complaint, He is not doing it quickly enough for her liking.
Time, the measured or measurable period during which an action, process, or condition exists or continues.
I understand her complaints. Her family is hurting. Her heart is broken. Her strength is wavering. Her faith is faultering. Her ears are beginning to be filled with satan's lies. Her prayers seem to be unheard. Her back is bent to breaking with this burden.
But would tomorrow be too late for God's glory to shine? Would next week be too late for the Lord to be honored and praised for a prodigal to return? Would next year be too late for a lost loved one to receive the Savior? Would anything He does for us be worth waiting another minute, another hour, another day?
Would eight days have been too long for God to create our great, big, beautiful world, instead of seven? Would Lazarus' resurrection have been any less miraculous if it had occurred in fewer or more days? Would our sins have been washed any whiter because Christ's three days in the tomb would have ended up being four days?
Who are we to judge God's motives, abilities or love based on a human idea called time?

MY ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Today's reading: Ecclesiastes 1-2
"But as I looked around at everything I had worked so hard to accomplish, it was all meaningless. It was like chasing the wind. There was nothing really worthwhile anywhere." Ecclesiastes 2:11 NLT
It takes me only a small percentage of time, in comparison to Solomon, to look over all I've accomplished. What I have built, what I have succeeded in, what I have because of my hard work is minute.
What I do see that I have done, is like he said, meaningless. Feeble. Poorly done, but done none the less.
But when I look at all God's done? When I stop long enough to count all the blessings, happenings, sins forgiven and opportunities He has allowed into my life--I am amazed!
Any good that has come from my hands, any of my words penned that touched a heart, any healing offered or advice given on my behalf, well, they're really from Him and He's allowing me to be a part of it!
No, nothing I've done is worth much, especially in comparison to all He's done and is doing.

ATTENTIVE LIFESTYLES
Today's reading: Psalm 122-124
The catch phrase of this century might well be, alternative lifestyle. It's a title one might apply to oneself if how you live, what you believe and the morals (or lack of them) differs from peers, family or society.
Most alternative lifestyles are sin-filled, publicity-making, government supported, hell-bound and God-spurning. What to do?
I recommend, in a fly-in-their-face move, not an alternative lifestyle, but an attentive lifestyle.
"We look to the Lord our God for his mercy, just as servants keep their eyes on their master, as a slave girl watches her mistress for the slightest signal." Psalm 123:2 NLT
Keeping our eyes on our Creator--at all times! Sticking so closely to Him that we notice, and attend to, His slightest nod, His raised eyebrow or His simple smile.
Attentive to our Savior. Immersed in His will. Observant to His directives. Absorbed in doing anything, anything at all, we can do just to please Him!
So, may I ask--are you living an alternative lifestyle, or an attentive one?

HALF-HEARTED
Today's reading: 2 Chronicles 25-28
"Amaziah did what was pleasing in the Lord's sight, but not wholeheartedly." 2 Chronicles 25:2 NLT
Half-hearted service. You've experienced it, haven't you? The help you received from someone doing it because they had to versus someone truly serving you from the heart. The gift given out of duty versus the gift given out of love.
Are you serving half-heartedly? Three-quarter-heartedly? Maybe you're serving at a 99%? Is what you're doing for the Lord becoming spite-filled and heartless? Are you mumbling and grumbling more than praising? Are you drawing folks into service--or driving them away because of your attitude?
What's best? Serving, just to get it done or stepping aside and allowing someone who can do it wholeheartedly to take over? Oh, I know--one never hears the suggestion to 'quit' inside the walls of the church, but are our half-hearted attempts what is keeping the Church from exploding like fireworks in this dark world?
What if Christ had died for 'most' of our sins? What if He had given Himself for a majority of the population? Where would we be?

Oh, I know--one never hears the suggestion to 'quit' inside the walls of the church, but are our half-hearted attempts what is keeping the Church from exploding like fireworks in this dark world?
What if Christ had died for 'most' of our sins? What if He had given Himself for a majority of the population? Where would we be?

HIS NAME
Today's reading: Deuteronomy 4-6
"Do not misuse the name of the Lord your God. The Lord will not let you go unpunished if you misuse his name." Deuteronomy 4:2 NLT
I don't curse. That being said, I thought I could write this one of the 'ten' off my list of things to do.
But, alas!
My commentary has stated that not only should we refrain from using God's name (or simple words supposed to substitute--for example, gosh) in an unholy manner, but we should not fail to give Him credit when credit is due.
Therefore, my dilemna.
I do not give my Lord enough praise. I do not mention His name in honor often enough. I do not applaud Him publicly as frequently as I should, and He deserves.
Smearing His name is not something I do--overlooking His greatness, well, I'm guilty.

USED TO BE
Today's reading: Acts 9-10
"All who heard him were amazed, Isn't this the man who..." Acts 9:21 NLT
Luke's talking about Saul/Paul in this verse--but couldn't it be about any one of us?
When we begin to speak of Jesus, couldn't it be said of us...
Why, isn't she the gal who used to allow her mouth free reign?
Isn't she the gal who spouted off whatever she thought to who ever was listening?
Wasn't she the woman who stirred up all that trouble?
Don't you remember who she used to be?
I believe Luke's verse can apply to each one of us! Who we were should be miles from who we are today.

DISCIPLINE
Today's reading: Hebrews 11-13
"No discipline is pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, you will reap a harvest of righetousness and peace if you have been trained by it." Hebrews 12:11 NIV
My favorite verse in the whole Bible. So applicable to life. So easy to understand. So useful in the happenings of the day.
I've used it's wisdom to lose weight.
I've used it in governing the weapon of my mouth.
I've encouraged myself and others with its promise.
I've memorized and meditated upon its truths.
Got a favorite verse? Do you have one you go to repeatedly? Have one memorized and set into your heart?
I'd be glad to share mine--or you can choose another!

JEALOUS
Today's reading: Nahum
"The Lord is a jealous God..." Nahum 1:2 NLT
We've heard it. We've read it. We think we understand it.
But do we?
Jealous is an adjective meaning to be intolerant of rivalry or unfaithfulness.
Does my Creator have reason to be jealous this morning of any activities, loved ones or undone tasks I am involved with? Who, or what, am I allowing to cut into my time with Him--and His time with me? Where in my day might He have reason to find me unfaithful in our relationship?
Might my attitude be 'stepping out on Him' in regards to various issues I face? Is my relationship with the clock casting a dark shadow over what I am willing to give/receive/do for my Lord?
Our God is a jealous God. How does that knowledge affect our day?

IT'S OK
Today's reading: Proverbs 31
Reading Proverbs 31 is one of my least favorite things to do. Oh, she's admirable--I'll give her that. She's economically wise--highly esteemed in today's day and time. She's a planner--we may have a common thread going there. But to compare myself to her? I come up lacking!
That's all right.
Well, it is now. For years I've compared myself to her and have fallen short of the standard she's set. I've beaten myself up over not having it all together like P31 has. I've laughed about her abilities, knowing deep down it was envy not humor driving the heart.
Then a dear friend gave me a small wooden plaque to hang in my kitchen. Nothing fancy, really. A rough sawn board, a piece of hanging wire and a red gingham ribbon--and words that perk me up and place me back where I believe God intends me to be:
Jesus knows me, this I love.
When she first handed the prize to me, I thought, 'Oh, how cute. How very nice. The song I've sung for years and years.' But when I got home and re-read its words, I soon realized it's not the same words I've had in my heart since childhood.
Jesus knows me, and still died on the cross for me. Jesus knows me, and still intercedes on my behalf to His Father. Jesus knows me, and still chooses to stand beside me. Jesus knows me, how short I fall of the standards set by godly women, how many times I screw up, how unlovely I truly am--this I love!
A special thanks to my dear friend for her thoughtful gift...and a new look at P31!

RESTING IN HIM
Today's reading: Psalm 120-121
"He will not let you stumble and fall, the one who watched over you will not sleep." Psalm 121:3 NLT
Contrary to what you might be feeling, how you view the circumstances you find yourself in and what well-meaning friends have said--God is still on your side!
He has not excused Himself from your life.
No vacation for Him.
No potty breaks.
No turning His head to sneeze and thus allowing the universe to function on its own for a brief time.
At no time in your life, or in the lifetime of our great, big world, has He ever created a time when He thought any one of us could 'go it alone'.
He is with you. He is evident in your life. He is in your inhaling and in your exhaling. He is as close as your pulse and as up-to-date on your life's story as your fingerprints.
You, no matter how you feel, have to know He is with you!

HIDING IN THE CHURCH
Today's reading: 2 Chronicles 21-24
"Joash remained hidden in the Temple of God for six years while Athaliah ruled over the land." 2 Chronicles 22:12 NLT
There are alot of days I'd like to stash my son away within the walls of the church.
I'd prefer not to introduce him to some of the living arrangements his friends are forced to endure because of their parents' divorces.
I'd like for him to never, and I do mean never, see or even hear of two men kissing, pretending to be married or, well, let's not go any farther.
I'd consider myself a good mother if he were to grow up never hearing foul language, seeing provocative dress (although let's be honest, church attire isn't what it used to be) or sexually suggestive advertisements.
But I cannot hide him in the church. His light wouldn't shine in the dark world if I did. His impact would not be felt among his unsaved friends and loved ones.
Hiding him away from the world and its lures is tempting, very tempting...but I'll trust God to help me help him.

KEEP MEETING
Today's reading: Acts 5-6
"Meanwhile the apostles were performing many miraculouse signs and wonders among the people. And the believers were meeting regularly at the Temple in the area known as Solomon's Colonnade. No one else dared to join them, though everyone had high regard for them." Acts 5:12-13 NLT
Maybe you've invited your friends and family members to church until you're blue in the face. Quite possibly your neighbors known your worship service times as well as you, since you've asked them to attend for the past several years--weekly.
But you still don't see them in the crowd on Sunday morning?
Trust God.
The apostles had to. They had to believe God was working behind the scenes, even when they saw no evidence of it.
You do, too.
Your commitment level is noticed by those not committed to Christ. Your dedication to your house of worship is affecting others. Your dedication to God and His ways has a ripple effect that goes far beyond the walls of your house.
People are noticing. People stand in admiration. And when they come to Christ? They'll be wishing they'd have listened to you sooner!

READING THE WILL
Today's reading: Hebrews 8-10
"Now when someone dies and leaves a will, no one gets anything until it is proved that the person who wrote the will is dead. The will goes into effect only after the death of the person who wrote it. While the person is still alive, no one can use the will to get any of the things promised to them. That is why blood was required under the first covenant as a proof of death." Hebrews 9:16-18 NLT
Blood is required, even in 2011.
Attempts have been made to 'clean up' the Christian views. The mess and disgust of blood are a little less than desirable to some. Sacrifice, especially a blood sacrifice, is considered taboo in some circles of conversation.
But, it's still required.
Christ's blood was what was needed to wash away my sins. His death on the cross was my only hope. His decision to die on Calvary is all that saves me from myself and from the pits of hell.
While Christ lived on earth He did many great and wonderful things. He touched broken bodies, mended shattered lives and restored health and well-being...but until His death, He couldn't do a thing for me!

ANTICIPATION
Today's reading: Micah
"Yes, says the Lord, I will do mighty miracles for you, like those I did when I rescued you from slavery in Egypt." Micah 7:15 NLT
Chains loosed. A sea path. Flakes of food. Quail you could catch. Fire by night and a cloud by day. Water from a rock. When it comes to miracles, the children of Israel saw them, experienced them, had the privilege of partaking of them!
I believe God's willing to do the same things for you. Mighty miracles, He says!
Miracles bigger and grander than the Creator-painted morning sky. More intricate and detailed than our individualized fingerprints. More awe-inspiring than the process of growth and birth. More delicate and fragile than butterfly wings.
He will do miracles for you. Maybe, just maybe, He already has. Quite possibly, you've overlooked what He's done--but I truly believe as one of His children, you're aware of anything bearing His mark of excellence!

DO YOU KNOW?
Today's reading: Proverbs 29-30
"Who but God goes up to heaven and comes back down? Who holds the wind in his fists? Who wraps up the oceans in his cloak? Who has created the whole wide world? What is his name--and his son's name? Tell me if you know!" Proverbs 30:4 NLT
Amazing, isn't He?
Mighty, isn't He?
Capable, isn't He?
You do know Him--don't you?

OVERWHELMED
Today's reading: Psalm 119
You certainly have a sense of humor, don't you, Lord? In my quick prayer to you this morning I asked for something in your Word to jump out at me quickly, since I've got a lot of things on my plate this morning, today and this evening...and Yyou responded.
Yes, You responded by assigning me the longest chapter in the Bible!
And the verse that caught my attention?
"I am overwhelmed continually..." Psalm 119:20 NLT
Boy, did that ever catch my eye! That's me in a nutshell. That's the headline for my day. That's just what I was complaining to You about.
But, back to Your sense of humor--here's the rest of the verse...
"I am overwhelmed continually with a desire for your laws." Psalm 119:20 NLT
Seldom, if ever, is my mind racing with anticipation for You. Oh, it happens, don't get me wrong. But usually I am running willy-nilly trying to accomplish, perform and succeed at things that have little eternal consequence. I allow my problems, my plans and my potholes to have my full attention. My mind races with all I need to do to please others and please myself.
But please You?
Thanks, Lord. Thanks for reminding me of what's important!

VICTORIES
Today's reading: 2 Chronicles 16-20
"At that time Hanani the seer came to King Asa and told him, Because you have put your trust in the king of Aran instead of in the Lord your God, you missed your chance to destroy the army of the king of Aram." 2 Chronicles 16:7 NLT
You don't place your trust in anything or anyone other than the Lord, do you?
You don't rely upon your health, your monetary funds or your abilities to give you comfort, security or peace, do you?
You don't have a few select needs stashed in the back of your mind, in the closets of your heart and in the pit of your stomach that you're handling on your own, not wanting to bother God with, do you?
You're not experiencing the victory you thought would be yours as His, are you?

MILK
Today's reading: Hebrews 5-7
"Solid food is for those who are mature, who have trained themselves to recognize the difference between right and wrong and then do what is right." Hebrews 5:11 NLT
We have three new kittens here on the farm. Cute, cuddly, delicate, not-staying-because-we-already-have-two-barn-cats kind of kittens. Anyone interested in a free, adorable kitten should contact me--there are only three, don't want to miss your chance! But back to the kittens and the verse.
These little cuties are living solely on the milk their momma, Sprout, is providing for them. She could drag them up a mouse or two, but they wouldn't know what to do with it yet. She could show them the way to the cat food dish where we provide her some nibbles, but having no ability to digest such mature food would do them more harm than good. They are on their way to becoming cats, but they're progressing at a pace that allows them to reach it safely and solidly.
Mature food, not milk, is what today's verse points to. The need to grow spiritually. The natural process of becoming more and more of what we're purposed to be. Learning to tear into chunks of Scripture, cut it up with a knife and fork, chew it up and allow it to nourish our hearts, souls and minds.
Knowing right from wrong and deciding to choose right, that's a sign of being a mature Christian. Hmmm? Aren't there days we all need to be back on a milk diet?

THROWING THE DICE
Today's reading: Jonah
"Then the crew cast lots to see which of them had offended the gods and caused the terrible storm. When they did this, Jonah lost the toss." Jonah 1:7 NLT
I'm not sure if they threw dice, drew straws or did rock-paper-scissors, but our dear prophet Jonah lost. And why wouldn't he?
He's heard the word of the Lord. He'd been given specific instructions. He understood his mission completely. And then? Then he ran in the opposite direction!
The storm was his fault.
It had nothing to do with what the crewmembers' little gods said, Jonah had offended God--the One and Only!
What about you? In the circumstances around you, would you be found at fault? Chaos in your home? Stagnant and dry services in your church? Rare, if any, evangelistic opportunities?
Are you doing everything, nothing more or less, the Lord asks? Have you gone exactly where He's asked? Are you ministering to the people He's called you to speak to?
Or are you digging in your heels? Trying to run? Refusing? Crossing your arms, stomping your foot and shaking your head?
Who is missing out on the knowledge of our Lord and Savior because you're choosing to 'pull a Jonah fit'?

UNDERSTANDING
Today's reading: Proverbs 28
"Evil people don't understand justice, but those who follow the Lord understand completely." Proverbs 28:5 NLT
Have you the understanding of justice? Are you aware of how sin-filled you once were and how blood-washed you are now? Have you taken grasp of the immensity of your sins and the expense Christ paid to bail you out of your mess? Have you thought about how a true, just, righteous God could have had nothing to do with the likes of you until His Son died on the cross for your filth?
Justice is not the only word Christians have a deeper knowledge of than those outside His will. How about forgiveness? Love? Mercy? Grace? Joy? Peace?

Have you thought about how a true, just, righteous God could have had nothing to do with the likes of you until His Son died on the cross for your filth?
Justice is not the only word Christians have a deeper knowledge of than those outside His will. How about forgiveness? Love? Mercy? Grace? Joy? Peace?

TRAVELERS
Today's reading: Psalm 117-119
"I am but a foreigner here on earth; I need the guidance of your commands. Don't hide them from me!" Psalm 119:19 NLT
Let's say you and I were to head off on a trip to Japan. Once we procurred the funds to pay for our airfare and arranged a hotel to house us during our stay, the real work would begin.
We'd have to, and I do mean have to, pick us up the finest guide book about Japan known to man. We would need to locate a Japanese/English dictionary. We might ought to see about getting us a real-life translator to follow us around every step of our trip.
We would be foreigners in the land. We, at least I'm speaking for myself, would be ignorant to the language. We could not, without a great deal of difficulty, converse with anyone native to the land in which we'll be traveling. No telling what we'd order to eat, how long our game of charades would be trying to locate a bathroom and what about emergencies that might arise while we're on foreign soil?
Yes, the guide book would be essential. Like our Bibles.
We're not home. Sitting here at 1324 Garrett's Prairie Road, I'm still not home. This is not where my heart and head are focused. This is not where I'm from or destined to spend eternity. So, I need God's Word to guide me until I get back to my Father's house. I need His words to direct me, warn me, teach me and correct me.
Have you opened your Guide Book today? You, dear friend, are in a foreign land--use a guide book daily to help you get around on this 'vacation'!

SOCIAL LADDERS
Today's reading: 2 Chronicles 11-15
"But when Rehoboam was firmly established and strong, he abandoned the law of the Lord, and all of Israel followed him in this sin." 2 Chronicles 12:1 NLT
I can see him climbing up the social ladder church meeting by church meeting. Rung by rung he gains a foothold into the hearts and lives of fellow Temple-attenders. He makes his presence known each Sabbath--for spiritual and political reasons (and to appease his wife?). Life goes well. His children do well in school. The polls are upbeat and positive. He's more at peace than ever before. And his wife is happy.
I see the inaugural ball. Friends from church are invited. Fellow pew-sitters are posing beside him for pictures. The priest is even asked to pray at the induction.
And then? Then he begins to miss a few services. He starts snubbing brothers and sisters in Christ. His attitude changes. His heart drifts. His eyes wander.
Inch by inch he steps out from under the presence of the Lord. Day by day he begins to believe what his understudies and political backers tell him--about his power, his might, his intelligence.
We do the same thing, don't we? We never truly intend to walk away from the Lord, from His peace, from His fellowship. We know the goodness of living closely to Him. And yet, we strike off on our own. No intentional vacations, or determined moves--inch by inch, choice by choice, sin by sin.

RETURNING
Today's reading: Numbers 29-32
"...Sir, we have accounted for all the men who went out to battle under our command; not one of us is missing!" Numbers 31:49 NLT
There is the slight possibility that I'm only speaking to the self-centeredness of myself, but I'll go ahead...
Are there times you get to the finish line, gain the enemy's banner or crawl into the sunshine after the rain and forget to look around? You're tickled you've made it through. You're ecstatic with what's been done. You're hyped with faith...but your friends? What about the friends who've gone into battle with you?
Do you take into account how your trial of faith affects your prayer warriors?
Are those who have held you up in prayer, believing when you couldn't, carrying you on a mat to the Master, are they accounted for? You've not left anyone behind, have you?
I tend to get focused so completely on myself, in the midst of my problems, that I don't notice the storms and trials of others. I bandage my own wounds, but overlook the slight limp of my sisters in Christ. I celebrate my victories--but do I take into account the fact that all are not won?
I'm going to start looking around more often. I'm going to take a broader glance, a more panoramic view of the Christian walk. I'm going to stand before God one of these days, and I want to tell Him all my friends are accounted for!

SINGING FOR JOY
Today's reading: Acts 3-4
A verse from a song has stuck in my head since last night.
"...I sing for joy at the works of Your hands..."
Oh, my mind raced with pictures of His works as I sang: the wrinkles of a newborn, a simple flower, the Grand Canyon, the process of an acorn to a tree.
But this morning? This morning, I'm thinking of His works that don't always receive the applause.
The cells that grow abnormally. The defects discovered in a doctor's testing. The earthquakes. The wind. The droughts.
The song was all about praising God--and nothing, whether miraculous or catastrophic changes who He is!
Sing for joy today, at the works of His hands.

DRIFTERS
Today's reading: Hebrews 1-4
"So we must listen very carefully to the truth we have heard, or we may drift away from it." Hebrews 2:1 NLT
Know any drifters?
Folks who were raised with knowledge that Jesus is God's Son, Jesus died on the cross for their sins and that Jesus lived again--and have still chosen a path of godlessness. Friends who had strong Christian upbringing, but wandered. Former Sunday School classmates who have fallen away from the church.
Are you a drifter?
Are you living, breathing, voting, reacting, witnessing, proclaiming and raising children according to the truth you've heard? Or have you drifted? Even the slightest?

VERDICT
Today's reading: Obadiah
"The day is near when I, the Lord, will judge the godless nations! As you have done to Israel, so it will be done to you..." Obadiah verse 15
We have not been handed a 'Get Out Of Jail Free' card simply for having His name in our pledge.
We are not guaranteed a verdict of 'not guilty' plea for having mention of God on our government buildings.
We will not be excused due to our currency, coins, national anthem or heritage.
We will be judge, by God, based on our lives, our choices, our decisions, our votes and our treatment of Israel.
So, will we be judged a godly nation or not?

EARLY BIRDS
Today's reading: Proverbs 26-27
I just love seeing a verse from the Bible come to life! I truly enjoy watching as God's living, breathing, applicable to the year of our Lord 2011 Word come to fruition. I count it as a victory against those who proclaim the Bible as irrelevant, when Scripture takes on life.
Like this verse:
"If you shout a pleasant greeting to your neighbor too early in the morning, it will be counted as a curse." Proverbs 27:14 NLT
I've seen this verse in real-life in regards to my early morning cheerfulness and my neighbor's, well, not so lovely morning.
I shout a friendly hello as I leave for work. They grumble.
I state, with a chipper voice, the beauty of the day. They moan.
I comment on what a good night's sleep I've had. They hem-haw around the fact that they've just been in bed an hour or so(I knew that from the music playing all night), have a hang-over and are running late to get their kids to school.
I proclaim the goodness of the earth. They huddle a little further into their bathrobes and cast me an evil eye.
I'm beginning to think my kind, pleasant and first-thing-of-the-day words are a little less than appreciated.

PRAYING
Today's reading: Psalm 114-116
I'm no extraordinary prayer. I haven't the inclination to pray for long periods of time. I do not use King James English while I talk to God...He doesn't use it when He speaks to me--we just have that kind of agreement.
I'm used to praying among twenty or so pre-schoolers, which lends my prayers towards short, sweet, to the point, usually about someone's pet and with one eye open!
When I talk to the Lord during my quiet time, I allow what comes to my mind to direct the prayer. If a worry rears its ugly head, the Lord and I discuss it. If a gift from Him comes to mind, I thank Him. A need, a request, a moment pushing me towards praying for another, that's what He and I talk over.
My prayers are not magical. I do not pray believing what I say or how often I say it does any good. I do not pray to fulfill a religious duty. I do not pray to impress those listening to me. I pray because I love Him and I know He loves me! I pray because I know He listens!
"I love the Lord because he hears and answers my prayers. Because he bends down and listens, I will pray as long as I have breath! Psalm 116:1-2 NLT
Why do you pray? You do pray, don't you?

MY SPOT
Today's reading: 2 Chronicles 6-10
Each morning you'll find me in the same spot. A comfortable rocker surrounded with my favorite Bibles, a Bible concordance, a Bible dictionary, my Bible reading chart, a college ruled notebook and a handful of pens. My laptop rests beside me until I know what it is God needs me to type up and send out over the World Wide Web.
There's nothing special about my chair. It sits in my front room now, but has spent time in my mother's front room at our old house, in Isaiah's nursery and then in the front room of our old house. It's not fancy. The arms of a well-worn wood. It's cushions are lumpy, some might call it having character. It's been upholstered in plaid, in Peter Rabbit, in soft browns and now in a darker brown swirl, thanks to my sister.
It's my spot. It's where I have to sometimes take a time-out. It's where I sit and think. It's where I spend time in the Word. It's where I argue with God, yes, I argue with God. It's where I speak to Him about what's heaviest on my heart. It's where tears flow, my nose drips and praises go up!
It's not special, but for this spot, I ask the same thing Solomon asked as he devoted the Temple in Jerusalem to God...
"O my God, be attentive to all the prayers made to you in this place." 2 Chronicles 6:10 NLT
You've got your 'spot'. Allow me to re-phrase that, make sure you have your 'spot'. A place where you and God meet on at least, at least a daily basis. A place where you and He discuss your day, your hurts, your sins and your hopes. It needn't be fancy. It needn't be anything but a special place where you choose to meet up with your Creator, your Savior, your Friend.

SUCCESSORS
Today's reading: Numbers 25-28
"Then Moses said to the Lord, O Lord, God of the spirits of all living things, please appoint a new leader for the community. Give them someone who will lead them into battle, so the people will not be like sheep without a shepherd." Numbers 27:15 NLT
Standing on top of the mountains of Abarim, viewing the Promised Land, being told he wouldn't enter...there it is Moses makes his finest choice, his most remarkable legacy, his defining moment.
He pleaded with God to appoint a godly successor.
He did not beg for more time. He did not ask for monuments to be installed to honor his service. He did not present a power-point version of his way of doing things to be passed on. He only asked that God place in the spot he currently held a man of God's choosing, a man who would lead God's people according to God's plans.
Moses realized that even after he departed earth, it would not be about him.
Do we realize that? Are we aware that we make an impact, we direct, we represent--but when we're gone, it's still all about God?
In our families? In our churches? Inside our spheres of influence?
Are we living, and dying, the premise of it being all about God?

ALIVE
Today's reading: Acts 1-2
"During the forty days after his crucifixion, he appeared to the apostles from time to time and proved to them in many ways that he was actually alive..." Acts 1:3 NLT
Actually alive. Not partially alive. Not rumored to be alive. Not alive by means of a machine. Walking, talking, healing, saving, delivering, redeeming, grace-filling, mercy-expending alive!
You know that don't you?
Hasn't God shown you this week, this morning that His Son--the One He send to die for your sins--is alive?
Will you be participating, not just spectating but participating, in a service today that worships and praises this living King? Will you bow your head in reverence with your church family praying to the living, breathing, wanting to do some amazing things in your life, Jesus?
He's alive!
