COMING HOME
Today's reading: Ezekiel 7-12
"When the people return to their homeland, they will remove every trace of their detestable idol worship. And I will give them singleness of heart and put a new spirit within them. I will take away their hearts of stone and give them tender hearts instead, so they will obey my laws and regulations. Then they will truly be my people, and I will be their God." Ezekiel 11:18-20 NLT
I think of the prodigal son when I read this portion of Scripture.
He went away.
He tried new things.
He wandered from his faith.
He 'became' his own man.
And yet he had to return to home in order to be repaired, restored and redeemed.
Home is where we are made. Where we have memories. Where we grow in the safety and security of those wanting the best for us.
I get that not everyone has such a warm and fuzzy feeling of the home in which they grew up. Memories of dark times, feelings of inadequacy, moments of fear may fill our minds when we think of home.
Despite your raising, here is hope: God is home.
He is our safe place. He is where we find nurturing. He is for us completely and consistently. He is willing, if we allow, to make us into all He has created us to be.
If you are not home, why not come home today?
