REARVIEW MIRRORS

Today's reading: Exodus 33-36

"As my glorious presence passes by, I will put you in the cleft of the rock and cover you with my hand until I have passed. Then I will remove my hand, and you will see me from behind, But my face will not be seen." Exodus 33:22-23 NLT

I've stood where Moses stood...

Not beside the Red Sea.

Or in front of Pharoah.

Or as a leader of over two million people.

I have seen the backside of God.

I've seen where He has passed before me.

I've seen Him in my rearview mirror.

I'll admit, I had asked to see Him face-to-face.

I have asked  Him to allow me to see His fingerprints, big and bold.

I have asked Him to let me watch Him move mountains and change hearts right before my eyes.

But He choose to let me see what He feels I can handle--His shadow. His presence. His autograph. His answers.

And it is then I realize He has sheltered me in the cleft of the rock. He has kept me from too much. He has given me what is best for my faith and for His glory.

So, I continue to trust Him. Even if I only see Him in my rearview mirror.
