PRESCRIPTIONS
Today's reading:  Proverbs 17-18

"A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit saps a person's strength."  Proverbs 17:22 NLT

You hold in your hand a prescription pad.

You know the kind--the king doctors used to carry around in their lab coat pockets.  The pad they'd scribble your prescription on and you'd take it to the pharmacist to have filled.

Maybe you've never seen one.  Maybe your doctor does it all electronically anymore...either way, imagine with me.

From the moment you walk out your door, if not before, you begin administering meds to the people you come in contact with.

Some of your prescriptions will hurt them even more than they're hurting.  Your words will cut them to the quick.  Your attitude will drive them further into a pit.  Your lack of encouragement will drive a nail in their coffin.

Some will improve their condition and set them on a road to recovery.  A few of your words will give them the boost they need to climb out of a pit.  Maybe, just maybe, your words will be as a life-giving fountain watering their dry hearts--causing flowers of joy to burst out!

Either way, you're doling out something.

Which will it be?
