PURSUED & PURSUING
Today's reading: Psalm 42-44

"As the deer pants for streams of water, so I long for you, O God. I thirst for God, the living God. When can I come and stand before him?" Psalm 42:1-2 NLT

I can see the mighty stag barreling through the woods. I can see it leap over the fallen logs. I can imagine it rushing headlong into the brambles.

Pursued by a hunter. Running for its life. Escaping death with every pant of its lungs.

I can also see a small deer pressing further and further away from its homeland. Reaching out on its own. Seeking a drink of water. Fresh water. Cool water. On a long, hot summer day.

Pursuing what's most desperately needed. Parched. Dry. Thirsty. Seeking.

David knew well the feeling of both deer. As do I.

I have been chased by my enemy. Dogged. Followed. Seemingly trapped.

I have also sought after God and His presence with the same energy and desire. Needing Him.

And in both instances, He has found me. He has filled me. He has nourished and comforted and cared for me.
