GOING BACK
Today's reading: 1 Kings 19-20

"Then the Lord told him, Go back the way you came and travel to the wilderness..." 1 Kings 19:15 NLT

God was asking Elijah to retrace his steps and walk down familiar, if not trying and unsettling paths.

When, if Elijah was anything like most of us, was ready for something new. Something different. Something a little less confrontational. Something, honestly, a little easier.

But God asks him to go back--to go to the wilderness--to do a work for God in a place where Elijah was sure no work could be done. He'd tried, Elijah tells the Lord.

Maybe God has you in the same spot.

Maybe He isn't releasing you quite yet from a ministry, a job, a prayer request or a vow you have made to him.

He keeps asking you to return to it. To go back to it. To try again...and again...and again.

You've not seen any progress in all the time you've been at it. You've seen no grand movements in the right direction. You've not witnessed any grand accomplishments or leaps of success. You've not seen an explosion of growth or a single sprout of promise--but He is asking you to continue in it.

It's because He knows more about it than you do.

He sees deeper into it all than you can ever see.

He peers farther into the future than your life will touch.

Trust Him--and go back to it. Again. And if He asks, again. And if He continues to ask, again.
