A WORTHY OFFERING

Today's reading: Leviticus 22-24

As I'm reading through Leviticus, I come across the subtitle, Worthy and Unworthy Offerings.

This portion of Scripture, Leviticus 22:17-33, gives the priests the specific instructions in regards to which animals can be offered to the Lord and which ones can't. The list is quite detailed. It's quite long. It's quite exclusive.

To be acceptable, an animal must...

-not be female.

-have no physical defects.

-cannot be blind.

-can't be injured.

-cannot be mutilated.

-cannot have a growth of any sort.

-has no open sores or scabs.

-not be from a foreigner.

What a comprehensive list! Think how few animals fit the bill.

As an Israelite traveling to Jerusalem to offer sacrifices, would one take several animals with you--in case one wasn't up to snuff, one got injured on the way, one died?

I have to tell you, just reading this list exhausts me. The effort made to be right with God. The details required. The hope that what you present is deemed acceptable.

And...

I'm so glad Jesus was our worthy sacrifice!

He was all that was required. He was enough for me, you and everyone else. He paid the price for every one of our sins.

Worthy is the Lamb who was slain!
