HUMBLE
Today's reading: 2 Chronicles 7-9

"Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear them from heaven and forgive their sins and heal their land." 2 Chronicles 7:14 NLT

Humble-(verb)to make not proud or haughty in spirit or manner; to destroy the power, independence or prestige of.

I'll tell you, I had a difficult time with the second definition of 'humble', in regards to our God.

It's hard to think about Him destroying something in us.

Breaking us.

Removing something from us forcibly.

And yet, if we want to truly serve Him, heart, soul, mind and strength, He must take the power, independence and prestige we hold for ourselves within ourselves.

He must do some demolition work.

He must break us in order to get to the down-deep parts of us that He needs, and so desires, to re-make for His glory.

He yearns for us to 'be in our place' in regards to Him.

He aches to see us love Him as He created us to do.

He places people and circumstances in our lives that point to our need for Him, and how insufficient we are.

He can and will humble us, but He desires that we worshipfully do it ourselves.
