 PLANT

Today's reading: Job 3-4

"My experience shows that those who plant trouble and cultivate evil will harvest the same." Job 4:8 NLT

I don't think I've ever 'read' this verse. But on reading it, I was reminded of an encounter I have had in the past year...

The conversation was had across a coffee shop table.

It wasn't that she was that much older than me.

I don't think her spiritual walk had many days longer than my own.

But her words, in regards to my prodigal, surely and soundly reached out and touched my heart.

She asked simply, If you plant tomato seeds, what will you get?

Tomatoes, I replied.

If you plant corn seeds, what will grow? she continued.

I said, Corn.

What did you plant in the heart of your boy as he was growing? What seeds did you sow into his life? What songs did you teach him? What stories did you share with him?, she softly said as she leaned in for a response.

I planted Jesus, I told her in a whisper.

Her simple reply...Then wait for Jesus to show up.

I don't know what you've planted, good or bad, Jesus or evil. One you can lean into and wait for the reward, the other? Well, the other needs repented of and amends made, as you continue to walk with the Lord in a newness of life.
