 DON'T LOOK ANY FARTHER

Today's reading: Matthew 11-12

"John the Baptist, who was now in prison, heard about all the things the Messiah was doing. So he sent his disciples to ask Jesus, Are you really the Messiah we've been looking for, or should we keep looking for someone else?" Matthew 11:2-3 NLT

Very easily John could have assumed that since he remained in prison, that this Jesus fella wasn't the Messiah.

After all, the Messiah was stepping in as a mighty victor, right?

The Messiah was coming to set all things in order, isn't that what they'd been led to believe?

The Messiah would turn the political powers on their head, isn't that so?

The Messiah, as they had studied in the Torah, would 'ride in on a white horse' and set the world to the proper order--allowing the Jews to rise to the top?

But John remained in prison--for preaching about this same Messiah!

John asked, Do I need to keep looking for the Messiah?

No, John, you don't.

And we don't either!

No matter the current state of our circumstances. No matter the weight of burdens on our shoulders. No matter the condition of the world around us--Jesus is the Messiah.

Our Hope. Our Joy. Our Peace. Our Salvation.

We needn't look any farther.
