 DEFECTIVE HERD

Today's reading: Leviticus 1-3

"If your sacrifice for a whole burnt offering is from the flock, bring a male sheep or goat with no physical defects." Leviticus 1:10 NLT

Well, I'm so very glad, on so many levels, I did not live during Levitical times!

For one, I'm a rule follower--and I'd have been one busy gal following all the prescribed laws.

Secondly, I thoroughly enjoy my creature comforts the 21st century afford me.

Thirdly, my flock would not provide me an adequate animal for sacrifice!

On our little farm, which one might refer to the 'Isle of Misfit Animals', there wouldn't be a single animal worthy enough for a Levitical sacrifice!

Clementine, our oldest goat, has bad feet. Oh sure, we've worked on them, but they are a continual problem for her--and us.

Lucy, our second in the matriarchal line, is in constant need of rescue from having put her head and horns in precarious portions of fence. From her escapades she has cuts and scars that would mark her off the list!

Truth be told, it doesn't take reading very long in Leviticus to make one's heart and mind thankful for the Gospel fulfilled in Jesus--whether you are a goatherder or not.

Our Perfect Lamb.

Our Spotless Sacrifice.

Our Redeemer.
