PROVE
Today's reading: 1 Kings 16-18

"At the customary time for offering the evening sacrifice, Elijah the prophet walked up to the altar and prayed, O Lord, God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, prove today that you are God in Israel and that I am your servant. Prove that I have done all this at your command." 1 Kings 18:36 NLT

Prove-to learn or find out by experience; to test the truth, validity or genuineness of; to test the worth or quality of; to turn our especially after trial or test.

When I think of all I believe God has me involved in...

When I ponder the things in life I've accomplished by His strength...

When I look at the tasks I think He has laid before me to be part of...

When I stand before others and speak of my God...

I'm really asking Him to prove Himself in them and to prove that I have done them with the proper attitude and motivation.

That's asking a lot.

Of God? Well, sometimes--because I sure leave Him a huge mess to shine through!

Of me? Yes, to the nth degree! Because when I stand back and ask Him to 'grade' my work, He takes everything into consideration.

Everything.

How quickly I was to obey.

How sure I was in His being able to provide.

How deeply I wanted to please Him.

How full of faith I was when I stepped up to the challenge.

To stand before God, and men, and ask Him to prove Himself in something I have 'built' with my own hands--that's scary...and exciting...and hope-filled...and humbling...and faith!
