CONTROL
Today's reading: Proverbs 13

"Those who control their tongue will have a long life, a quick retort can ruin everything." Proverbs 13:3 NLT

To borrow Paul's phrase, my mouth is my 'thorn in the flesh'.

It's something I cannot do without, but daily suffer the consequences from it.

You see, my natural tendencies are to be outspoken, opinionated, brash and mouthy.

So this verse, which is underlined, highlighted and circled in my Bible, speaks to me.

Control of my tongue requires me to have a tightly-knitted relationship with my God. I depend upon Him to keep me and my words in check. I trust Him to allow me to speak up when needed, shut up when not. I follow His lead in conversations, looking for doors to open and doors to close. I need Him to guide my words, to make my life long--and happy.

Maybe you don't have trouble with your mouth--good for you! But if you are a fellow struggler, there is hope. His name is Jesus, our merciful, grace-giving Intercessor.
