DOUBTS
Today's reading: Job 17-18

"The righteous will move onward and forward, and those with pure hearts will become stronger and stronger." Job 17:9 NLT

Words spoken by Job.

Job, the man God deemed righteous, godly, an example for others.

Job, the man drowning in sorrows, failing in health and surrounded by well-intentioned but condemning friends.

He knew his own heart. He knew the depth of his reverence for the Lord.  He knew down deep that he hadn't done anything to deserve this new life he was living.

We hear where his faith may have been tested as he spoke these words.

He wasn't going forward but falling further behind. He wasn't growing stronger but weaker. He wasn't seeing this fine statement of faith working out in his life. He, at this time, possibly saw no rewards or benefits of godly living. He wasn't seeing it take him anywhere. He wasn't seeing his faith take him farther or bless him more.

And still he did not doubt God. He did not doubt God's ways. He did not doubt God's wisdom. He did not doubt God's plans. He did not doubt God's ways. He did not doubt God's love for him. He did not doubt God's timing.

Can we say that? That we have doubts, but none that are centered on Him?

Man's faith may fail him sometimes, but God's faithfulness never fails him. -William Greenhill
