MAKING HIM KING
Today's reading:  John 5-6

"When the people saw this miraculous sign, they exclaimed, Surely, he is the Prophet we have been expecting!  Jesus saw that they were ready to take him by force and make him king, so he went higher into the hills alone."  John 6:14-15 NLT

There's a lesson to be learned from these folks...

It's one thing to want to make Christ king, it's an entirely different matter making Him King.

They wanted a king who would put into place some great programs, feed the homeless and subsidize all they didn't want to do for themselves.  They wanted someone who would make them feel better about themselves.  Someone who could provide for them.  Someone who could make life easier.  Sound familiar?

That's the reason He left their presence.

Had they wanted a King to rule their hearts, One to serve with their very lives, a Redeemer deserving their worship, He would have stuck around.  Had they wanted a King they would continue to follow even when He told them to become less, to get to the back of the line, to put others ahead of themselves He could have continued to minister.  Had they wanted a King who the people could have to trust in even when He was gone from earth, He would have hung around a little longer.

What do I want Him for, I've had to ask myself this morning.
